Snap Counts & Usage From Week 1
Armando Marsal takes a look at notable trends in snap counts and usage from last week. Like I do every year, I will dive into offensive snap counts after each week. This article will focus on identifying changes, trends, and things we should be taking note of for players and their opportunities. Snap counts are a part of my weekly analysis because they gauge how often a player is on the field, which could translate into potential opportunity to produce fantasy points. Even though playing time does not always translate into fantasy points, the path to scoring fantasy points is easier for those players on the field. Looking at snap counts and comparing them to volume/touches also gives us a clear picture of a player’s role in their offense. Some positions, such as quarterbacks, are straight forward, but others not so much. I will focus primarily on situations that we need to be keeping a close eye on and situations that stand out to me. At the end of the article I will include a spreadsheet with all the weekly snap counts for all teams, along with the YTD snap counts.
Buy…Sell…Cut: Week 1

This piece will highlight players to targets in trades, who to move on from in a transaction, and who could be cut if you want to make a waiver wire or free agent addition. Some of our most difficult decisions stem from who do we walk away from regarding our rosters. Early on, this article will be about targeting players to help make our rosters better in the near future. As the season rolls on, we will evolve to target players we should add for our fantasy postseason run. Please don’t get me wrong, you have to make the playoffs first, but it’s too late to try to build for the playoff run once we pass the trade deadline. You are too late if you wait to make the playoffs to build for the postseason. You have to plan to build to win at the end of the year and through the playoffs. Always look, note, and get an idea of ideal targets for the end-of-the-season push. That said, let’s dig into an early look at players that we could potentially add for the correct value. Keep in mind the best way to add via the trade is to target players whose values are down now, but you expect to increase in value. And always look to trade from a position of strength to a place of weakness. Some or all of these players may not be available to you simply because you can’t offer a commodity, a player that makes the other team “better.” Conversely, you may not be able to move some of the sell players because other team managers don’t see value in adding the player.

Targets And Touches: Week 1
Russell Clay provides the targets and touches from Week 1 of the NFL season. Targets and Touches is a weekly piece that dives into the structural usage of NFL teams from a fantasy football standpoint. Usage in NFL offenses dictates fantasy value. While some high-usage players aren’t top-scoring fantasy assets, low-usage players can sometimes overcome with efficiency. The general principle that “the more usage, the better” is the best advice any fantasy analyst can give. One of the best ways to identify breakout players before the consensus is to look to volume and increase in the role. One of the best ways to identify players destined to bounce back is to see who’s still getting volume in offenses despite some negative results. Chasing fantasy points from previous weeks is one of the biggest blunders made in fantasy football, especially if those fantasy points don’t tell an optimistic usage story. Each week this piece will provide a spreadsheet that contains both the full season target and touch totals, along with weekly target and touch totals, for every Running Back (RB), Wide Receiver (WR), and Tight End (TE).
