Last week if you used the article, you did fairly well including me where I cashed all my cash games. Every week I am going to post three guys for my cash core and then the next week I will be breaking down how each of them did and the ownership I got them at just to show you how well or bad our cash is starting out.
Xander Schauffele 16% owned in my cash contests and finished 9th this week. I loved him coming into the week just due to him being almost a lock to do good in a no cut event and my stats all pointed to him playing well and that is exactly what happened.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout 6% and finished 29th this week. He could have finished much better but started off the first two days at +1 and on the weekend going -6 overall which was plenty enough for him to score decently.
Andrew Putnam 10% and finished 2nd. I said it in my article that he was probably the safest cash play on the entire board and while I did not expect him to finish 2nd, I did like him a lot.
So just looking at the three cash plays they combined for a total of 262.5 points which was nearly half of my entire lineups score. If this was a no cut event, we probably could have still cashed with a 5/6. Now we move to this week where we have another no cut event which I do personally like because it seems to be the weeks, I do the best in. Let’s get to it and break it all down for you all!!
Course Breakdown
This week we make our way to South Carolina to play at Congaree golf club. This golf course should actually be pretty easy this week and there is not much rough around the fairways and the fairways are also some of the widest on tour. This course hosted only one tournament in 2021 where it was bombers who were mainly towards the top. Now I will mention the winner Garrick Higgo only won with a -11. The only defense this course is how firm and fast it is and the waste bunkers in the fairways. This course plays as a 7,655-yard par 71 with four par 3’s, eleven par 4’s and three par 5’s. Do not worry too much about the distance because guys will bomb it in the fairway and with how firm it is there will be plenty of rollout.
Stats I am looking at
- SG: APP
- Driving Distance
- Opportunities gained
- Proximity 200+
- Sand saves
- SG: T2G
- SG: BS
Player Breakdown
Rory Mcllroy (Cash/Gpp)
The top guy overall for me and many others, he is super expensive but if you can get the correct value, I believe Rory will be a must. Comes in 1st in my model and is 2nd on APP 1st on Dr distance and 1st and 2nd in T2G and BS. I hope the ownership is down because of his price tag but I doubt it.
Justin Thomas (Cash/Gpp)
If not being able to hit the fairways does not hurt him this week, then he is going to finish top 10 with potential of coming top 5. Thomas comes in 5th in my model with 11th in Dr distance, 9th in prox 200+ and 6th in T2G. he is going to do well here this week.
Jon Rahm (Gpp)
I would not touch him in cash just due to the inconsistencies sometimes and could go out and lose a bunch of strokes with the putter. Rahm will not show up with his stats but is 7th in Dr distance and is one of the best golfers in the field. Has played well at comp courses we are looking at including the Mexico open where he won that tournament this year.
Sungjae Im (Cash/Gpp)
Listen, I know he was not great last week but back at another Bermuda greens course where Sungjae loves and also his recent form is still really good. 7th in my modell with him being top 5 in Prox 200+, T2G and BS. Dr distance is not the furthest for him, but I still think he finishes well this week.
Collin Morikawa (Gpp)
Comes in 13th in my model this week with him ranking 9th in APP and 6th in prox 200+ so as we all know his irons are amazing and rarely ever loses strokes on APP in any tournament. The reason he is Gpp only for me this week is due to his putter being so bad. If he can find any semblance of that this week and he could theoretically win.
JooHyung Kim (Cash/Gpp)
Now that more top golfers are sitting around him this week maybe we get some depleted ownership on him. Best putting surface is Bermuda greens along with having some amazing irons and will hit a majority of fairways. Distance is not the longest in this field at all, but I still believe he can tear this course up.
Jordan Spieth (Gpp)
I would look at ownerships before going here but if he comes in at a good number then I will play him in Gpps. His skillset is actually good for this course and smashes at Tournament of champions which is a comp course.
Cameron Young (Cash/Gpp)
Not being able to hit fairways at a high clip will be nullified this week as we do not have much rough and fairways are super wide here. Another course that fairways were easy to hit was Wells Fargo which happens to be a comp course to here and Young finished 2nd. Also comes in 16th in my model with his worst stat being App but that is ok for me.
Shane Lowry (Cash/Gpp)
This will be one of the guys in my cash core and I will explain why, Lowry missed the cut at the U.S open but before that he was one of the more consistent golfers on tour. We do not have a cut this week, but I see Lowry finishing top 25 easily here. Ranks 8th in my model with all his stats steady and good and is one of the better sand players in the field which should help some this week.
Taylor Montgomery (Cash/Gpp)
I will be beating this drum until everybody gets here and at this price most people should be on him in my opinion but will not be because of the stats not really popping. He can do pretty much everything well except keep his driver straight which is not a huge factor this week.
Corey Conners (Gpp)
Ranking 7th on APP this week along with 7th in T2G and 6th in BS. The other stats I am looking at are not great, but he has all the talent in the world to do good on this course and his best putting surface is actually Bermuda.
Emiliano Grillo (Gpp)
I know it might seem crazy putting him on the Gpp only tag but in all reality, he is usually one of the worst putters on tour and has gained strokes with his putter in seven straight tournaments. If it holds up, then yes, he can easy finish well but if he goes back to his old ways then he could finish 50th and do nothing for you.
Aaron Wise (Gpp)
Always has massive upside but can just fall apart and screw you in the same breath. His stats will not pop for you, but he can hit is fairly long and is good from 200+ with his irons.
Mito Pereira (Cash/Gpp)
Ranks 4th in my overall model this week coming in 5th on App, 7th in 200+, 8th in T2G and then 7th in BS which is amazing to see. I am not sure if I will be 100% on him this week because he has screwed more often then not but will be getting a very close look.
Scott Stallings (Cash/Gpp)
Not in love with him but coming in at $7,200 and ranks 5th in my average scoring model with him being 2nd in App, 15th in Dr distance and 4th T2G. he should pay off this salary quite easily in my eyes.
Davis Riley (Cash/Gpp)
I will not lie to you guys this play kind of scares me, but he has good distance and great irons from 200+. He also has the talent to finish 25th this week so let’s hope we can catch that fire.
Trey Mullinax (Gpp)
Has some huge distance which will help him this week. Ranks 6th in my model with him being 4th in Dr distance and 3rd in 200+. Super risky play but super cheap in a no cut event I am willing to take my chance.
Ryan Palmer (Gpp)
This is one of my favorite Gpp plays down in this range this week. No cut to scare you off of him and should come in with minimal ownership.
Cash Game core: Leaves you $7,667 left per golfer
