Last week is now a thing of the past and one I don’t really want to talk much about. Had some ups and some downs and just didn’t get much right in the DFS aspect. Now we move to the Wells Fargo Championship, which we will have a much better week and I will be posting Showdown articles for Friday-Sunday and hope we all make a bunch of money. Now onto the course preview.
Course Preview
This week we move to the Wells Fargo Championship which is being played at TPC Potomac for the first time. It was previously played here in 2017 and 2018 for the Quicken Loans so there is a little bit of data for us. This course is a 7,160 Par 70 and while the distance is very low do not just assume it is going to be easy and a birdie fest because it is actually far from that. It has only two par 5’s which are difficult to reach in two and 8 of the 12 par 4’s they play at 450+ yards. The rough is very penile and has the fourth most difficult scoring average on tour including majors. This course features a Scottish type of style and will test all aspects of these golfers’ game and should be lower scoring than we saw last week.
Stats I am Looking at
Fairways Gained
SG: APP
Par 4 450+
Prox 175+
SG: T2G
Player Breakdown
Rory Mcllroy (Cash/GPP)
I love him this week but do not love the price. He isn’t like how Rahm was last week, but he is right up there for a smash week and can win this tournament. Also never finishes outside the top 20 at the Travelers.
Abraham Ancer (Cash/GPP)
A lot of people are going to be on Conners here I believe, but I think I would honestly rather have Ancer in the same price range. Plays the travelers very good and could finish top 10 here.
Marc Leishman (GPP)
Has been playing well as of late and I feel like this could be his week do good. Plays good at the travelers.
Keegan Bradley (Cash/GPP)
Should be a sneaky play but has a bunch of upside in this spot. As long as his putter doesn’t fail him he should do well.
Paul Casey (GPP)
If I knew his back was 100%, then he would be near a full-on lock for me this week. He sets up so well here and I do think he can win I just worry about that back.
Russell Henley (Cash/GPP)
I have him in my articles pretty much every week just because he is pretty safe and also has massive upside because his APP game is really good.
Webb Simpson (Cash/GPP)
Another guy who could do really well at this course. He has struggled lately but I do think he can bounce back and have a good week.
Cameron Young (GPP)
Not sure how he will do this week because you need patience for this course, but he is a special talent and also very good from 200+ in proximity. I could see a decent week from him.
Aaron Rai (Cash/GPP)
Another guy that still needs to prove himself, but he has the tools to do so.
Matt Kuchar (Cash/GPP)
Has been playing great and should keep that up this week. He is a guy that is a perfect fit for this course and also plays the travelers well.
Doug Ghim (GPP)
GPP only for me because while he has upside he could also completely miss the cut and do nothing for you. His T2G and his Par 4 from 450-500 is pretty good so that could be the difference.
Brian Harman (Cash/GPP)
I always love him and he is good at avoiding bogeys. Also, gaining fairways so he will give himself opportunities to be able to put it close.
Matthew Nesmith (GPP)
The most tilting golfer for me. I will say he did well the last time I talked him up so hopefully he can do the same for us this week.
Joel Dahmen (Cash/GPP)
Somewhat of a safe play for me this week and believe he is going to great for cash games with decent upside into the top 20.
Sepp Straka (GPP)
If he can figure out finding the fairway often this week he should do very well. His proximity from 175+ is awesome and avoids bogeys for the most part.
Russell Knox (Cash/GPP)
This is his week and I will be on him for sure. Will grind out a course and all his stats line up for me.
Lucas Glover (GPP)
Risky play but at John Deere last year, which is a comp course, he actually won. Great prox from 175+
Martin Laird (Cash/GPP)
Party Marty himself making his way into the article again. His stats all look great to me and is top 17 in all the stats I have pulled up.
Adam Svensson (GPP)
Guy just cannot put it all together, but his irons are really good and his prox from 175-200 is 2nd in the field.
Ryan Armour (GPP)
I know I always say he is only a coastal guy but hear me out. Armour is one of the most accurate guys off the tee and his irons are really good as well. 1st in prox from 200+, 1st in fairways gained and 3rd in bogey avoidance.
Chez Reavie (Cash/GPP)
Give me all the Reavie this week. I am a sucker for him and he actually sets up very well for this course. Super accurate off the tee and if his irons are on just watch out for him towards the top come Sunday.
Nick Watney (GPP)
Not the greatest of forms, but he does play the comp courses well and usually does good at shorter tough courses.
Wesley Bryan (Cash/GPP)
I actually like this play quite a bit this week. I could be a wrong read, but I do think he makes the cut and works his way up on the weekend.
