Man, last week seemed like it was going on for a month all for us to get through 4 days of golf. The weather was so bad we had a Monday finish in one where Cam Smith took it down but a few times during the day it looked like he was just going to choke it away. Of the 18 holes he made only 4 pars. Now we move to the Valspar championship. I am sure we will get a bunch of withdraws this week just due to some of the players who played at the Players are here and we had a Monday finish. The course isn’t too far from the Players but still the toll this week took on some of these golfers is a lot and this course is not easy whatsoever. Now onto the player breakdown. I will not have a course breakdown this week because I have been very sick.
Event Details
Event– Valspar Championship
Course– Innisbrook
Dates– Thursday March 17th to Sunday March 20th
Player Breakdown
Viktor Hovland (Cash/GPP)
Top overall play on the slate for me. Anywhere where irons and approach is a big plus I will be on him a bunch.
Justin Thomas (Cash/GPP)
So, the only problem I have with JT this week is his par 5 scoring from last week. It was great and I believe he made better then par 4 times on the week for 4 full days.
Collin Morikawa (Cash/GPP)
Just like Hovland, any course where you get a boost for irons and approach. He will be up top on my list.
Louis Oosthuizen (GPP)
Pretty expensive but that is because this is a top-heavy tournament and I’m sure one of these guys will win this week. Has played fantastic at this course over the years.
Tyrell Hatton (Cash/GPP)
This man could win this tournament and I would not be surprised. Only thing knocking him down in my model is his irons from 175-200 but I think he will be fine.
Matthew Fitzpatrick (GPP)
Played here once in the last 5 years and missed the cut but I do believe he sets up well for this course and can do well.
Bubba Watson (GPP)
His stats will not line up for what you are looking at, but he is a good shot shaper making him a good play this week. Just look at his past two times here.
Alexander Noren (Cash/GPP)
I am not sure he can win here but I do think he does well and can finish top 15 giving you a good score.
Harold Varner III (GPP)
Definitely a GPP only play this week as he is so up and down but can give you a top 10 finish when he is clicking.
Keegan Bradley (Cash/GPP)
Fantastic mid-tier play this week. 5th in my model and I will be on him.
Russell Knox (Cash/GPP)
Love how well he sets up for this week and at this course he finished top 25 the last 3 times he played here.
Adam Hadwin (Cash/GPP)
Past couple times at this course has not panned out well for him but he does pop in my model coming in 7th so ill take the chance on him sub $8k.
Aaron Wise (GPP)
In this type of field, I can see him coming in top 10 comes in 19th in my stat model as well.
Lanto Griffin (GPP)
Missed the cut the last time he played here but I see him turning that around this year.
Denny McCarthy (Cash/GPP)
Hopefully his putter can carry him to another top 25 this week.
Nick Taylor (Cash/GPP)
He will not win or come top 5 but that is not what you need from him and he should be able to grind his way through the cut this week.
Adam Svensson (Cash/GPP)
God awful putter put his irons are pretty fire and could mitigate his bad putter. Just needs to get even on the putter.
Patton Kizzire (GPP)
Could be wrong going to him this week but all his stats look good on my end and he is a good player for $7,200.
Martin Laird (GPP)
Well, I don’t really know what to do here. Laird is 4th in my stat model yet has missed the cut the last 4 times played here. That is why he is GPP only for me.
Mito Pereira (Cash/GPP)
Potential Mito week? I am in for sure. His last 50 rounds look great in what I am looking at but lately has not been the best.
Pat Perez (Cash/GPP)
Actually, sets up pretty well for me this week and is coming in sub $7k.
Zach Johnson (GPP)
Form has been bad but coming into this tournament last year where he finished 29th he came in missing 3 cuts so form doesn’t really bother him.
Henrik Stenson (GPP)
Ryder cup captain narrative? Maybe but kind of reaching at straws here but if he gets back to any sort of relevance he can pay off.
Vaughn Taylor (Cash/GPP)
Good course history his last two times played here.
Austin Smotherman (GPP)
Not a terrible punt down in this range on the week.
Kyle Stanley (GPP)
Another decent punt down in this range but God-awful recent form.
Wesley Bryan (Cash/GPP)
I don’t know how much I actually like the cash part of this play, but his irons are good and he is very cheap.
