DFS Marlin’s Catch of the Week: NFL DFS & Betting Selections Week 16
Last week was bizarre in DFS, and although I personally felt good about the outcomes and even reflecting overall had a good feel for results, I just missed cashing on a flurry of contests. This article went 14/25 (56%), which is below our season average and brings the season average down to just 65%, as well. Henry was the article cover player, and although the outcome and even success were predicted correctly, the DFS numbers just weren’t there, given how that game went, as he went for just 13/100 but didn’t fall in the end zone, dropping our cover player selection down to 9/15 (60%). From a betting perspective, my official bets broke even, and smart bettors had a slight loss on the week. Overall, not the best week, but according to my tracking, we are due for a big week, and this is the time of the year we normally start to catch fire, so let’s get after it! Holiday football season is officially here with Saturday games starting this week, resulting in some of my favorite slates knowing they will be a bit smaller, and also presenting us with news-based opportunities, including but not limited to playoff implications, contract incentives, injury replacements, etc. The goal of this article is to provide some insight and transparency into my DFS & betting process and approach leading up to an NFL slate, along with picks and plays that I’ve landed on for this week in result. Generally, my goal for the season is to provide DFS plays that hit at a 65-70% clip, and we are just about doing that. Any given week, the approach and strategy may adjust, depending on what the slate looks like and how I want to attack it. DFS Marlin’s Catch of the Week: NFL DFS & Betting Selections Week 15
Last week, this article continued to crush from a betting perspective, and although it did not hit at our normal season average from a DFS perspective at 65-70%, it improved a lot from last week and came in at 60% (18/30). We did not hit on our cover player article, dropping that hit rate down to 9/14 (64%). However, I did go on Armando Marsals’ livestream last Sunday, and beat the chest on plays listed in this article like DK Metcalf and Puka Nacua, and both of those plays came up big. It’s a good reminder that confidence levels in certain players can strengthen or weaken the closer and closer we get to lock, and it doesn’t hurt to get the most up-to-date opinion on any of these plays in the Discord as we approach lock. This is the last week before we start to see Saturday games in the NFL and the holidays hit, so we basically have the last normal slate of the season, with 13 total games, including five games in the afternoon and eight games on the early slate. This article was rough from a DFS perspective but absolutely crushed from a betting angle last week, going just 13/25 (52%) for DFS picks but 6/7 on bets. Our cover player didn’t completely flop in Nacua but also did not give us the return we needed based on price point, and we are now converting on cover players 9/13 on the year (69%), which is starting to bring everything in range with our expected average of about 65% success rate across the board. This week, we return to an 11-game slate with just three games on the afternoon slate and eight games on the early slate. Last week was a losing week for me, as we were way below our season average of 65%, only going 12/31 on DFS plays, just a 38% hit rate. With that being said, it wasn’t all bad in the sense that the guys this article did hit on hit big, including our article cover player in WR Michael Wilson, who was WR1 on the week, scoring 36.5 fantasy points at just $3,800. That puts our article cover players’ hit rate at a solid 8/11 (73%). This week, we’ve got another 11-game slate with seven games via the early window and four games in the afternoon. I’m eyeing down a very similar approach to last week, with 4-5 main slate lineups this week at full units, with another 1.5U on the afternoon-only slate.
