Last week I barely missed the cash line all due to Stallings having an awful week and that losing week will just help me with moving forward with the cash game strategy. I will go and breakdown how each cash game play I did last week and then from there we will breakdown the course and then put out a list of Cash/Gpp plays and then we make all the money. Let’s get to it!
Cash game plays from last week:
Rory Mcllroy – We all know how this one ended but he ended up winning the tournament and came in at 39.4% in my contest and scored 139.50 points meaning he easily out scored his price tag.
Shane Lowry – Last two days of the tournament he completely fell off but ended up finishing 23rd at 30% owned and scored 70 points, which would have helped you but nothing insane here.
Mito Pereira – After a mediocre Round 1 shooting even par he went on to end -8 on the weekend and was 14.9% in my contest scoring 73 points.
All in all the cash game plays for the week scored a total of 282.5 points and would have helped you win some cash games if you played the right players around them. Stallings really hurt me this week otherwise I would have swept cash. Now we move on to this week where we will try to do the same thing as the last two weeks and put out good plays.
Course Breakdown
This week we move on over to Port Royal golf course to play the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Being a coastal course this has been one of the biggest tournaments where weather is a massive factor here. When winds are down it is a short and easy course that can be had by anybody really; including plodders who do not hit it far. When winds are up bombers have taken advantage and have done well here. The field is actually not great at all and usually in these fields the variance is up and you will end up wanting some players you usually would not play. In addition, if you have not looked at pricing yet this week you will be very shocked at by it, but do not shy away from some high priced players because in this field it is warranted with the price tags. Port Royal is a 6,828 par 71 with four par 3’s, eleven par 4’s and three par 5’s. The fairways are not the easiest to hit here but the rough does not penalize you to a point where you are worried about that too much. This week you will want to watch the weather all the way up to lock as right now Thursday afternoon seems to be the lowest of the winds and the same with Friday afternoon so as of now not a huge advantage but weather will change a lot up until Thursday.
Stats I am looking at
- SG: T2G
- Driving distance
- Good drives
- SG: APP
- SG: ARG
- Par 3 scoring
Player Breakdown
Thomas Detry (Cash/Gpp)
Most expensive play on the board but if wind is up then he ranks 4th in strokes gained total. In addition, one of the better putters on Bermuda greens and hits the ball pretty far on top of that.
Seamus Power (Cash/Gpp)
As I mentioned earlier in the article is you will see a lot of guys up towards the top that you usually would not. Seamus on the other hand has been towards the top of better fields then this one. Good in windy conditions and ranks 3rd in that model for windy conditions.
Mark Hubbard (Cash/Gpp)
Coming in at exactly $10k seems expensive but he has played ok as of late and has a 22nd and a 41st at this course. If winds are up he gets a bigger boost and I might start my lineup with him if that is the case.
Patrick Rodgers (Gpp)
Risky play like most weeks but he has good upside here. If wind is up, he is good and if wind is down, he still sets up well ranking 5th in my model this week and 8th in T2G. Not a bad putter on Bermuda greens and even finished 6th here last year.
Alex Smalley (Cash/Gpp)
Pretty expensive this week but you won’t find a good talent that is not. He belongs up here in this field. Ranks 8th in my model with him being 11th in T2G, 8th in App and 15th in Dr distance. Along with that he is good in the wind and that is actually his preferred conditions.
Stephan Jaeger (Gpp)
This play really depends on the wind this week, if the wind is lighter than we think then he is a smash play and I will love him a lot.
Russell Knox (Cash/Gpp)
Has finished top 20 the last three times here at this course. I really hate how bad he is with his putter, but he obviously likes this course and ranks 13th in my model.
Adam Long (Cash/Gpp)
Ranks 9th in my model this week coming in 5th in T2g, 18th in App, 4th in good drives and also 8th in par 3 scoring. Likes playing in the wind also so should have a nice week.
Adam Schenk (Cash/Gpp)
Amazing in the wind along with being 10th in my model. His worst stat is ARG which might hurt him, but I am willing to overlook that with how well it seems he sets up this week.
Austin Eckroat (Cash/Gpp)
I don’t think he will be low owned but is great in the wind and has a 22nd finish here last year. Stats don’t completely jump out to you but ranks 26th in my model so there is something you can see from that.
Cameron Percy (Gpp)
He is good on coastal courses and has an 11th here so we know he has upside, but his putter is actually really bad. 3rd in my overall model with him being 2nd in T2G and 6th in APP.
Lucas Glover (Gpp)
Another Gpp guy because you really don’t know which Glover is going to show up any given week. Ranks 15th in the model and if it wasn’t for his ARG and putting game I would be on him higher.
Ryan Armour (Cash/Gpp)
Another coastal course guy who has two top 10s at this course. He does have a lot of missed cuts in a row, but I think he will be just fine this week being it is a coastal course and should be in his element.
Ben Griffin (Cash/Gpp)
You won’t find a ton of stuff on him besides a few tournaments in the PGA and then in the KFT. He is good on harder courses so even wind picks up and gets a bit harder he should be just fine.
Brice Garnett (Gpp)
Another guy who if the wind is way up this week, I will move him up the rankings because he will gain an advantage with higher winds.
Peter Malnati (Cash/Gpp)
Has finished 7th and 21st at this tournament in the past and sets up nicely for being $7,200 which is a good price tag. I will probably have him in my cash games personally.
Chad Ramey (Cash/Gpp)
I really am not sure why he is sub $7k in this field. I understand he has been inconsistent but finished 17th here last year and also plays well in the wind if it gets there. It will either be him or Malnati in cash core.
Erik Barnes (Gpp)
Not really known on the PGA tour but had some success on the KFT and also had his mistakes and a bunch of missed cuts. He could make the cut and finish top 25 or miss the cut by a mile I do not see an in between.
Sean O’Hari (Gpp)
Another coastal guy who has played well at Pebble finishing 16 and also finished 22nd here last year. We are really just picking out of a hat down here.
Vaughn Taylor (Cash/Gpp)
Probably a couple hundred too cheap in my honest opinion. Ranks 11th in my model and has played well at a few coastal courses in the past.
Cash Game Core: This leave you with $8k per player left
- Seamus Power
- Adam Long
- Chad Ramey
