Former Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham’s hiring by the Atlanta Falcons as their new general manager will not result in the National Football league awarding third-round draft selections in two consecutive years to the Bears as compensation, as was the case in several similar situations in recent years. The NFL’s stance was that Cunningham will not serve as the Falcons’ top decision maker in their front office despite holding the title of general manager; president of football Matt Ryan will outrank Cunningham and everyone else on Atlanta’s management team. The Bears attempted to appeal the decision but the matter will not be reversed.
