2026 MLB Trade Deadline

It is MLB Trade deadline day. Ray Flowers has his Red Bull, some pizza and he made sure to get good night’s sleep to gear up for this special day.. When a trade happens, Ray will list the deal and fire off some initial trade deadline analysis. Rumors spreading? Ray will not that too. If some bit of baseball news breaks, Ray will be sure to relay it right here in this comprehensive look at the deadline. Make sure you bookmark this page as Ray will be updating the piece all day long, every time some bit of information pops.

Bart will head to Chicago to back up Drew Romo/Edgar Quero with Kyle Teel on the mend. He figures to surpass Quero. Since the start of last season, Bart has gone .243-8-43 with a .692 OPS over 451 at-bats. He’s just a guy, despite being a former #2 overall pick.

Sean Murphy ready to return from the injured list to replace Bart for the Braves.

Wells is the perfect Rays’ pitcher who can start or relieve. He’s had an excellent season as well with a 2.67 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 43 relief outings. He should continue to get bullpen outs, with skill, in Tampa.

The Orioles remove Wells from 9^th inning consideration, so it would seem like BAL lines up now with Kittredge-Cano with Felix Bautista potentially returning later in the year to put some heat on the duo.

Holmes, not Detmers, is headed to Chicago. Over his last 42 outings since the start of last season, he’s 16-12 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 218.1 innings. He basically pitches to contact, but he is an elite ground ball getting – 56 percent since the start of last season – and that should help him to keep the ball in the park on those days when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley. He should be ready to do either this week, or next, as he’s just about wrapped up his recovery work from a broken leg.Taylor is a depth outfielder. He’s rocked a .503 SLG this season with a huge .262 ISO, but his career marks are .422 and .184. Most of his success has come against lefties with a .900 OPS this season, compared to his .730 career mark. He will become a bench bat in Chicago.

Rojas may have been the Cubs’ top prospect. He’s got a solid overall game and his work at Double-A this year shows that off in spades (.270-15-57-58-17 in 91 games).

Varsho has been mildly effective at .239-7-26-39-9 in 99 games. His last 170 games he’s gone .241-27-81-82-11. As I said, mildly effective. Doesn’t have any split issues this year, but also isn’t very good (.681 OPS against lefties and .693 against righties). He will likely push Lamonte Wade to the bench and at least play against righties, while hitting in the bottom third of the order, for the Astros. Guess Wade could remain in the lineup over Trammell with Varsho playing center if they prefer.

Arrighetti heads to a team that certainly seems to have plenty of arms that can start: Soriano-Cease-Bieber-Scherzer-Yesavage-Taillon. Of course, Taillon isn’t very good, Bieber hasn’t impressed, and Scherzer is always hurt. Unfortunately, I don’t think Arrighetti is any good either. He started out hot before regression ate him up. Seventeen starts in he owns a 4.60 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 9.6 K-BB%. He profiles as a 5^th starter, and right now he’s on the shelf with a foot issue. He likely makes starts at some point, but who cares?

Zeferjahn is a great get for the Cubs to bolster their pen. He’s made 45 appearances punching out a whopping 75 batters in 51.2 innings, but his 14.3 percent walk rate tramps down his success though he still has a solid 1.20 WHIP. He should settle into a setup role though save opportunities cannot be ruled out until Palencia returns.

Who knows who the closer in Anaheim is now. Kirby Yates should be viewed as the lead guy with Bachman/Natera as the prime secondaries.

Ballersteros can really hit. In 59 games he posted a .687 OPS for the Cubs, but the batted ball data is solid, and no one doubts the bat will play. His glove? Not so much, but the bat seems legit. Don’t forget that the Angels moved on from O’Hoppe a couple of days ago, so Ballesteros is the franchise replacement.
12:46 PM: Clay Holmes is a hot name at the moment.

The Clay Holmes market is active with two-plus hours left until the Trade Deadline. Among the teams interested are the Diamondbacks, Brewers, Padres, White Sox and Braves. With a wide-ranging market, the Mets could take him down to the wire.

The Cubs add another arm to help out their rotation. Of course, they added Gausman and Detmers according to reports, so Garrett isn’t looking at a promotion from the minors to the bigs, unless they want to use him out of the bullpen. Garrett has been buried in the minors this season, though he’s absolutely excelled in 16 outings with a 2.90 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP and a 26.4 percent K-rate. A great long-term addition, but no short-term value is to be had with Garrett.

Long could see some time in the bigs for the Fish before the year ends/ He went .305-20-91 last season and this year he’s at .283-12-62. His hit tool might be below average, but he has a power bat that could hit 25 homers in the bigs.

May has a 4.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with a 4-year best of a 15.5 percent K-BB%. He’s fine. He’s solid. He’s just a guy – though he does have stuff that impresses. He threw 132.1 inning last season and is up to 109 innings this year. This is the first time, in a career that began in 2019, that he’s thrown Sixty Innings in back-to-back seasons. He’s a spotty workload piece the rest of the way as a result.

Romero has had 30-24 holds the last two years and this season he’s up to 21 as one of the better lefty setup men in the game. He should return from an appendix issue by the end of the month. The Brewers continue to strengthen a strength – their pen. It is an impressive group.

The Pirates added Camilo Doval, and now Weaver to join Mason Montgomery and Gregory Soto. That’s two lefties and two righties in a revamped group. Montgomery has been great, but it still might be Soto in the lead for 9^th inning work – though there are options everywhere. As for Weaver, he could pick up an odd save or two, but he’s been brought in to be a killer setup guy as he was in New York (1.84 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 15 holds).

Two executives believe Luis Robert Jr. will be traded before the 6 p.m. deadline, with some teams inquiring about him, per sources.

The White Sox are still looking for help behind the plate and hope to add a catcher in the next 3 1/2 hours, per sources. Tyler Stephenson is on their radar among others, though the Reds have had interest in Stephenson from other clubs, too.

The first pick in the 2019 Draft, Adley has been somehow solid and disappointing in equal measure. Still, this is a pretty stunning move by the Orioles who are tearing it down again (Kremer, Ward). Adley, who is closing in on a return from a wrist issue, has slashed .251/.331/.433 this season with a solid .182 ISO. The numbers are, yet again, solid but far from pleasing. It’s easy to forget at this point that he went .277-20-80-84 in his second season, but it was only three years ago. A move to Fenway likely wouldn’t hurt his offense at all, it should help it if we’re being honest, but injuries have limited him to just 157 games since last season, though he’s gone .234-17-76-67 in that time. He will hit down in the order with Boston, and again, he’s still currently on the shelf throwing doubt into his outlook the final two months. BAL received three of the top-5 Boston prospects in the deal.

This will obviously leave Samuel Basallo as the full-time catcher. He’s nowhere close to Adley from a defensive perspective, and he too is hurt (shoulder). He is expected to start swinging soon and to return in August. He can at least sock it (16 HR, .450 SLG, .209 ISO) and he should play daily, IF he can stay healthy.

Bubic has been uneven this season and unhealty, but who the hell knows. Yamamoto-Skubal-Sasaki-Wrobleski-Sheehan-Snell-Glasnow-Ohtani-Lauer-Bubic … I literally have no idea what the Dodgers are doing? They are simply acquiring massive amounts of talent just in case guys get or stay hurt? Is this a sign that they don’t believe that Ohtani will pitch again or just adding more talent? Who knows how many bullets Bubic will even be able to fire either.

Ray is 10-6 with a 3.08 ERA on the year, though he also has a 1.29 WHIP and a terribly low 20.9 percent K-rate. He’s been money the last seven starts with a 1.09 ERA and 6-0 record, but in that time his K/9 is just 7/5 and his K/BB is 1.9 – terrible numbers. He’s struggled to get ahead in the count, to miss bats, and to limit walks. He’s more of the WHIP guy than the ERA guy for the Padres and there is worry about the punchout drop. Great environment in Southern California for Ray.

Hicks has been a breakout star this season at .282-14-62-54-3 with a .795 OPS. He’s posted an alite .876 OPS against righties, but he’s really struggled against lefties (.515) so one wonder if he will lose some at-bats in platoon heavy Tampa? A good get for TB because of his ability to make contact and drive the baseball. He just extends the Rays’ lineup.

Joe Mack will continue to see a ton or work for MIA as Hicks has spend a lot of time at the DH spot. This locks Mach in at C with an OF/DH of – Conine, Caissie, Marsee, Hernandez. What about Agustin Ramirez? Could he be called back up? Ramirez went 21-67-72-16 in 136 games last season. He stunk this year and was demoted. However, he’s hit moderately well in 59 games at Triple-A going .254-7-29-33-17 with a .759 OPS. His power speed combo would be a huge bonus down the stretch in fantasy as a catcher eligible player.

Smith can’t hit with a .571 OPS. His defensive versatility keeps him employed.

Macko was a top-20 TOR prospect who has made 22 appearances, 21 out of the pen, for TOR with a 4.91 ERA and 1.55 WHIP

10:26 AM: Mariners not planning to deal Randy Arozarena, even though they added Ward earlier. In fact, early estimates suggest Ward will lead off against righties.

A former Gold Glover who has slumped a bit with the glove, he also has a 20/30 season on his resume. He hasn’t hit for a while now (.569 OPS), but he still runs. Seems likely to enter a platoon situation in the outfield for a Sox team that is heavily lefty, especially in the outfield (Benintendi, Montgomery, Antonacci, Peters). Wether he does more than just play against lefties is currently an unkonwn.

Addell powered 37 dongs last season with 98 RBI, but he’s predictably slowed at 16-62 this season. He is still horrific at getting on base (.287 this year and .279 for his career), but CLE really needs a power bat which they get here. He is making more contact, his 23.7 percent K-rate is five points below his career mark, but he remains a poor offensive player who is streaky, but who owns power. CLE likes to run too, so there is a chance he reached double digit thefts for a second time if he pushes things down the stretch. About the same power outlook in Cleveland as Anaheim, as Park Factors show both parks as moderate in homers for righties (16^th in CLE, 18^th in ANA in the homer cat).

Ward has gotten on-base at an excellent clip (.383), but he left his power bat in Anaheim (seven homers and a .100 ISO). He does to a rough place to drive the ball, T-Mobile is dead last in baseball in Park Factors for RHB in the homer category since 2024. He will likely continue along doing what he has done in Baltimore getting on base but struggling to reach the seats. Not much changes here.

Suter cantbulk relieve or start. He’s a fine pitcher, but nothing other than a cheap AL-only add.

Alvarez isn’t bad, and can play around the infield, but it is hard to feel any kind of excitement for his 2026 outlook with the Angels.

Tons of moving parts here.

Luis Arraez will continue his assault on another batting title. He’s batting .324-4-43-52-10 with a .360 OBP. The question is – and it will have a lot to do with his value moving forward – is where in the order will he bat? He’s the perfect #2 hitter, but will the Phillies oblige? His outlook ticks upward with the move to Philly, just a little bit.
Todd Zolecki that the following will happen. Bryce Harper will move back to the outfield. Alec Bohm will move to first base. Arraez will continue to play second. Bryson Stott will move to third base. That means Harper/Stott/Bohm will all be looking at broadening their fantasy value by playing a second position.

Erik Miller would seem to be the leader to handle the 9^th inning for the Giants now with Keaton Winn sitting in the support chair. Make a move now on Miller if you need a 9^th inning boost.

Soriano replaces Kevin Gausman who was deal to Cubs. Soriano has had his best season at 9-6 with a 3.29 ERA over 21 outings, but he’s been incredibly uneven, though he is in a nice groove at the moment with a 3.21 ERA and 1.04 WHIP his last five outings. Owner of an elite 1.73 GB/FB ratio, and durable, the key continues to be his ability to limit walks. My hope is that getting him out of Anaheim will enable him to hear something different from a coaching staff, drop the attacking up in the zone thing, and return to dropping everything to/below the knees. Gotta be good for him to get to a better team environment too. This is a positive move for his rest of the season outlook (he also has a 2.88 ERA on the road this season).

The trade that broke baseball.

Skubal, since his return from surgery, has a 1.95 ERA, 50 punchouts and six walks in six outings. He should continue to be a star down the stretch. Good luck facing – Skubal/Yamamoto/Glasnow/Snell/Ohtani/Wrobleski. Eric Lauer is the big loser here as he moves to the pen – it would seem.

Hope’s preseason scouting report, and he’s going to be a future star – “The power is his calling card – and it is borderline elite – not bad for a 21 year old. Had an average .162 ISO and .428 SLG last year as he continues to look for the power in-game. Takes a walk but could stand to make more contact though he usually makes good decisions in regards to the strike zone. Has the speed to steal 20 bases as well. Likely a year away.” In 94 games at Triple-A this year he’s done .293-23-87-68-18 with a .899 OPS. Hope/Max Clark should be a dynamic duo in the outfield for years.

Ryan , two years removed from TJ Surgery, has been out for five weeks with a hamstring injury. The stuff is impressive, potentially allowing him to settle in to the middle of the Tigers rotation for years, but it is unclear how much he will be able to contribute this year. Smith is 21 and has 113 punchouts in 74.1 innings. He has yet to throw a pitch above Single-A.
