THE 2019 MLB DRAFT GUIDE

There are two packages for season long fantasy baseball in 2019, and they both include the 2019 Draft Guide (the breakdowns are listed below).

Note that the Guide will continually be updated until Opening Day. That means that no matter when you sign up for the Guide, unless it’s the final day of the preseason, that you will constantly be seeing additional work added to the product. We aren’t resting on our laurels at any point as we will strive right up until first pitch to bring you the best, most in-depth, most relevant information available.

Here’s what you have to look forward from the Guide.

  • RANKINGS: The rankings will be updated all preseason right up until Opening Day. In fact, the rankings will be updated multiple times a week so that no matter when your draft occurs, you can feel confident that you will have the latest thoughts of Ray Flowers to take to your event. There will be Mixed Rankings, AL-only Rankings and NL-only Rankings to cover all three of the main types of leagues in play. The rankings also include auction values ($) to give you a guide as to how to spend your draft day dollars in those auction leagues.
  • A 2018 REVIEW: What went wrong and right last season? In essence, we will be laying out our mistakes from last season because if you don’t learn from your mistakes you will be doomed to repeat them.
  • POSITIONAL & PLAYER MOVEMENT: Which players switched teams? Which players qualify at what positions heading into 2019? How should you handle the games played qualification thing, not just for hitters, but for pitchers? Yes, you have to consider pitchers now with the use of “The Opener.” We have some thoughts on how your league should handle that.
  • ROOOKIES AND MIINOR LEAGUERS: An in-depth write up of our top-40 rookie prospects for 2019. A special report on Vlad Guerrero. How, in general, should you view the youngster? Should you be aggressive or cautious? Finally, Vlad Sedler will share a first-person scouting report from the Arizona Fall League.
  • RESEARCH ABSTRACTS: How should you handle early selections? What about late rounders? How do you build the ideal batter? Constructing the ideal pitcher – is it possible? Which players should you target? Which players should you ignore? How do you uncover hidden gems? Tips from the pros on how to deal with auction drafts. Strategies to navigate the ever-present injury situation. What sabermetric categories matter? A look at topics such as the home run, BABIP, expected ERA/wOBA etc. The home run – what keys should you be looking at as you try to predict success in ’19? Much, much more as well will be written about.
  • IN-SEASON MANAGEMENT: How do you best accomplish completing a trade? How do you handle the weekly run to the waiver-wire? Tips on how to dominate the free agent process can bring massive success. When should you consider “punting” a category?
  • DYNASTY AND KEEPER LEAGUES: Mistakes to avoid while you’re building your squad. How to build a winner? How to evaluate players in terms of their keeper value?
  • HIGH STAKES LEAGUES: Vlad Sedler, one of the best high-stakes players in the world, will open up and share some of his thoughts on performing well in big money leagues. He will share the best way to play for the event (draft prep) as well as how to have success in-season.
  • THE DAILY GAME (DFS): Though this is a season long product, the team of accomplished Daily Fantasy Sports players in the Guru family is absurdly stupendous. Count on some work from the sharpest crew in existence about how you can get involved in the DFS game if you’re looking to broaden your game play in 2019.
  • BATTLE OF THE EXPERTS: Ray Flowers and Vlad Sedler will offer a point/counterpoint on a variety of players. Maybe Ray hates a guy and Vlad loves him. Maybe Ray is tepid on a guy but Vlad sees a potential breakout star. The two will go toe-to-toe and give their thoughts on a series of hot button players.
  • PLAYER PROFILE SERIES: The multi-time award winning Player Profile Series from Ray Flowers. There are no 50-word write ups about players in this draft guide. Nope. Instead, Ray Flowers will write 1,000+ word reports on the players you want to know about. Is Ozzie Albies ready for stardom? What about Yoan Moncada? Will Carlos Correa figure it out? Is Tyler Glasnow capable of harnessing his elite stuff? Is Luis Castillo underrated? All preseason, Ray will be writing up the hot button players in fantasy baseball.

  • Innovative looks at the bullpen, an ever-growing part of the fantasy games. This includes a weekly look at the closing situation of all teams in baseball as well as our unique BURR Report which breaks down the recent success/failure of team bullpens (which teams have bullpens you can attack with your hitters and which clubs are likely to pose a problem for you if you’re streaming batters against them?).

  • Free agent/ waiver-wire write ups. Who should you target and fade?
  • Injuries and what they mean to the player directly involved as well as the team context of covering the loss.
  • We will be following all the trends. Which players are surging and falling? Which splits matter? Which trends are likely to be short-lived or extended? Playing time battles of note.
  • For those of you who like deep dives, the team will also be using an extremely analytical approach at times digging into all those categories that have acronyms that you may or may not understand (wOBA, wRC+, DRA, WAR, xFIP, line drive rates, launch angles… all that good stuff).
  • Don’t worry, the team will do the hard work, pouring through the data, before explaining it in a simple manner.

A final personal thank you from Ray.

The last few years have brought tons of changes to the world of fantasy baseball. While my work has remained continuous at SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio (Sirius 210, XM 87), there has obviously been some jumping around in the writing game. I want to thank you all for your continued patronage and support of that work, not matter where it has appeared. I may not say it enough, but I appreciate you all.

Thank you,
Ray Flowers
