See ya later, Holmes

It’s been a pretty wild offseason, and it got wilder late Sunday night, when the Steelers traded troubled wideout Santonio Holmes to the Jets for a 5th round pick. Clearly, the Jets got Holmes at a major discount (the 155th pick of the draft) for a reason. Actually, it’s a few reasons. He has myriad of off-the-field issues the last five years, is in the final year of his contract and the Steelers don’t want to pay him, and he’s facing a 4-game suspension to start the 2010 season. For the Steelers, they now have a need at WR. Third-year wideout Limas ...

RB Keeper Overviews

Note: Ages are accurate as of midseason 2010. What’s interesting about this position is how watered down it is. Because so many backfield are utilizing two (even three) players in a rotation, the number of clear studs is low. And while there are more players these days than usual who do have some value now due to a fairly large role, they’re still in situations that prevent major fantasy production. We’ve also seen fewer legitimate developmental prospects at the position and a lot of players who are kind of in limbo, with little long-term potential and even questionable short-term potential. I’ll ...

Free Agency Thoughts

It’s been a fairly quiet and pretty anticlimactic free agent period so far. The one thing I’ve learned over the years about free agency is that its impact is pretty top-heavy, and overall overrated – at least when it comes to fantasy football. There are usually 3-4 major moves that have big impacts, and there are always a few moves that appear to be under-the-radar, yet wind up being key. But for the most part, the excitement some people feel in March and April dwindles down to next to nothing come September. That said, I still have some thoughts on what’s ...

Unemployment numbers now include LT

We knew that was coming, so now the question is, where will LaDainian Tomlinson end up? We know he wants to keep playing, so he’ll be in the league. So where do we start? We start with the good teams because to LT it’s all about the ring. That’s why I think he’d be willing to accept a complementary role on a good team, and what better player to work behind than Adrian Peterson? That’s right, I think LT in Minnesota would be great for both parties (that is, assuming the Vikes lose Chester Taylor). Tashard would be a great Choice for the Chargers

We’re seeing more trades lately in the NFL, and one trade rumor that has already popped up is Cowboy RB Tashard Choice to the Chargers. Let me say right now, that would be a fantastic move for San Diego. Yes, there will be RBs freely available in the draft, but Choice has proven a lot in his two seasons, despite not always playing a lot, or much at all. The Chargers have a window available to them now, so it would be a little risky for them to put the hopes of their running game in the hands of a rookie. ...

Believe it or not, there is still an NFL team in Cleveland, and Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer is one of the reporters covering the Browns there. She spoke with Matt Camp and me on Sirius XM Fantasy Football this past weekend about the Browns, and the outlook for the 2010 season with [...] […]

This weekend on Sirius XM Fantasy Football, fellow senior writer Matt Camp and I were inundated with calls (which we love), so we really did not have much time for the guests that have populated the show in recent weeks. Still, we had space for our pal Kent Somers, who joined us to talk some [...] […]

Of course, mere hours after I posted the last Sirius Business, WR Terrell Owens officially signed with Cincinnati, rendering most of what I wrote completely out of style. So naturally, we invited our good friend Joe Reedy back to Sirius XM Fantasy Football discuss what impact T.O. has had in his first week as a [...] […]
