Just missed it: Week Four

Once again, here are some RAW NOTES from our film reviews for the week that outline some big plays that were just missed in Week Four.

  • Sam Bradford missed any easy corner throw to Austin Pettis for a possible TD, two defensive backs jumped Tavon Austin route, pretty unacceptable throw.
  • Brandon Marshall could only get one foot down in end zone on 23-yard pass down sideline.
  • Calvin Johnson just can’t make a deep catch in the back of the end zone, as Matthew Stafford’s throw just a touch late
  • Alshon Jeffery drops a TD pass in end zone but catches the next throw against Slay in the end zone.
  • Marques Colston almost fought off double coverage for a TD at end of game
  • Mike Wallace had pass go right through his hands on a deep ball perfectly thrown by Tannehill
  • About 8 minutes Eli Manning to Hakeem Nicks on 1st and 10 at own 48, Nicks had ball go thru his hands on what could’ve been a 52-yard TD. As it turned out, Giants were penalized for holding on play so would’ve nullified the play anyway.
  • Alex Smith for Donnie Avery ahead of defender on left sideline for a big play, but he overthrew him.
  • Here’s one you don’t see too often, 9:38 left in game, KC PK Ryan Succop attempts and makes a 53-yard FG however a penalty against the Giants (illegal formation, 7 men on one side of ball) nullifies the kick and gives the Chiefs a first down. Chiefs proceeded to score a TD later in drive. Succop still got one point out of it for fantasy players but not the valuable 50+ FG
  • Peyton Manning took a deep shot to Eric Decker on 1st and 10 at the Broncos 20 14:18 left in 2nd quarter, just overthrew the ball as Decker dove and couldn’t hang on. A potential 80-yard TD missed. There was no one within 7 yards for Decker.
  • Eagles RB Bryce Brown took a screen pass on 3rd and 11at the Denver 39, he slipped at around the 10 which gave defenders a chance to close in on him and prevent him from scoring.
  • Brandon Bolden had a knee down at the half-yard line on a carry inside the 5.
  • Tom Brady to Kenbrell Thompkins on 18-yard TD attempt, well covered twice
  • Tom Brady to Aaron Dobson in end zone, incomplete
  • EJ Manuel to Stevie Johnson, on 2nd and 12, 1st quarter, Johnson was wide open along right edge of end zone but Manuel overthrew him along the side of the end zone. It would’ve been an easy TD.
  • On 3rd and goal, 2:00 left in 3rd, Manuel to Robert Woods initially called a TD from 4 yards out but replay review said no TD, Woods was bobbling ball. Bills settle for FG.
  • 1st and 10 at own 9 with 8:25 left in game, Joe Flacco hit Torrey Smith out behind defense nearly a 91-yard score but Aaron Williams had a TD-saving tackle at the Buf 17.
  • On 3rd and 10 at 17, Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith jump ball in endzone but Smith had it knocked away.
  • Carlos Dansby nearly had a pick of Mike Glennon on a 3rd and 6 at the Arizona 47. Might have gone back the other way for six, but he dropped it.
  • Late in game, after 3 minutes left, Vikings got the ball and for some reason passed on the first two downs. You have a weapon like Adrian Peterson, why not run the ball as you try and use the clock? After the first two throws, then handed off on 3 straight plays to AP.
  • Pit WR Antonio Brown was interfered with on a deep throw from Roethlisberger to the end zone. Would’ve been a 49-yard score. Brown had a step on CB Josh Robinson, who tackled Brown as ball arrived. Steelers got ball on the 1 and Le’Veon Bell cashed in on 2nd and goal, after coming up short on first and goal.
  • Pit QB Ben Roethlisberger had WR Markus Wheaton open across middle on red zone 2nd and 10 at Vikings 12, 4:22 left, but led him just a little too much on a post route and Wheaton dropped the ball. It could’ve been a TD.
  • TE Coby Fleener was targeted in end zone on 1st and 10 at the Jacksonville 22 but pass broken up mid 1st qtr.
  • Indianapolis WR Reggie Wayne was targeted 2x in red zone on Colts drive that started late in 1st and overlapped into 2nd but was missed twice, including once when he was out of bounds over end line of end zone.
  • Reggie Wayne had another play originally called a TD but called back on 1st and 10 at JAX 15 with 2:20 left to play in 2nd quarter, penalty against Jax, illegal use of hands penalty.
  • Donald Brown ripped off a 52-yard run down to the 15, nearly took it all the way.
  • Trent Richardson is getting the ball in goal to go situations, good news for owners.
  • Andrew Luck threw to endzone, TY Hilton on last play of first half, threw it over Hilton but Hail Mary nearly answered.
  • Jaguar TE Clay Harbor nearly had a 60+ yard TD catch but just stepped out of bounds at the 32 after gaining about 30 yards on pass play, first play of 4th quarter.
  • Jaguar WR Ace Sanders nearly had a 28 yard catch and run for TD but force out of bounds at 4
  • Cecil Shorts with a drop in the end zone on 1st and goal from the 4 early in 4th quarter, and targeted again on same drive but he and luck could not connect.
  • Darius Heyward Bey nearly got a garbage time TD for Indy from QB Matt Hasselbeck but dropped it on short red zone play with under 2:00 left.
