A note on rankings and projections

One of the toughest things for me to deal with this time of the year is the need to update projections based on preseason games over the weekend. This late in August, and especially next weekend, I want to keep our projections as up-to-date as possible, for those with weekend drafts.

However, it is a major, major undertaking to update everything we have related to projections. Because we’ve added so many things due to reader demand, updating everything we have almost in real-time just can’t be done. We’re talking all the projections for offensive and defensive players (like 5,000 individual projections), four different excel tools, four different PDFs (not including the Auction cheat sheet, which we update every Friday), the app, and the draft software. It takes about 10-12 man hours to update, and five different people.

So my choice is to not update anything until we do the major update early in the week or just update the projections, which will also update the custom cheat sheet.

As I’ve done the last couple of years, I’ve opted to update the projections/custom cheat sheet for offensive players. What I’m also doing, as I watch the games, is to update the Stock Watch article. So if you have a draft today or any time over the weekend before we’re able to update everything we have projection-wise, I’d suggest reading the Stock Watch for insight on the changes we’re making to rankings and projections, and you can also print out the latest custom cheat sheet. For example, here are our current PPR rankings as of 11am Sunday morning.

As usual, we’ll do our major updates very early Tuesday or late Monday night, after we can see the MNF game, and we’ll do another update on Friday afternoons. But from here on out, we’re going to tweak just the projections/cheat sheet to show readers the very latest rankings.

I would love to see a 2013 version of the “Guriffic” article from a couple years ago. The all-in list from the Players to Target article is close, but give me John’s top 20-25 and let me see how many I can get on my team.

I never have understood all of the love for Cam Newton. He seems errattic, lacks confidence, very immature. Kind of like how I feel about M. Vick, just can’t trust him.
