Dynasty Draft Update

I have been buried with our player profiles, which are larger than ever this year, so I have neglected to keep anyone interested up-to-speed on this ongoing dynasty league startup draft. Here’s a quick review of my picks since I’ve last touched base.

First six picks (reviewed in previous posts):

1.03 Newton, Cam CAR QB

2.10 Peterson, Adrian MIN RB

3.03 Welker, Wes NEP WR

4.10 Brown, Antonio PIT WR

5.03 Spiller, C.J. BUF RB

Quick review of the rest:

6.10 – Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE – My team name is “Gurrific,” so my picks better be. Hernandez fits the bill. Yes, there are more mouths to feed, but worrying about that, at this point, is paralysis by over-analysis. Hernandez is very young at 23.

7.03 – Turner, Michael ATL RB – Everyone seems to think he’ll fall off a cliff this year, but there’s actually little evidence of that other than the date on his birth certificate. Obviously, he’s a year-to-year guy in a dynasty league, but I needed someone to hang my hat on in this year in case AP has issues.

8.10 – Bush, Michael CHI RB – Guess what? He’s your lead back in 2013. You can mark that down in pen. So while not the greatest pick for the long-term, this is a value for the next 1-2 years at worst.

9.03 Floyd, Malcom SDC WR – Nothing special here, but solid veteran depth, and he’s essentially the top wideout in what should be a good offense.

10.10 Holmes, Santonio NYJ WR – This one’s based mainly on talent, and Holmes’ is still very good. All the other things not so much, but this was a later pick.

11.03 Gerhart, Toby MIN RB – Could not mess around with AP on my team. I do want to win now, so had to pull the trigger on a guy who was actually really productive late last year.

12.10 Thomas, Daniel MIA RB – Far from a lock, but it’s either him or Lamar Miller carrying the load for the Dolphin rushing attack with Reggie Bush getting older and more of a specialty player for the next 2-3 years. Thomas is solid with some potential, and this was a very fair price to pay.

13.03 Baldwin, Doug SEA WR – Gotta get back on track with some upside and exciting picks, and Baldwin fits the bill to an extent. He might be their best bet for catches going forward.

14.10 Ford, Jacoby OAK WR – Could not pass on a potential impact player this late. I love Ford, but at this point I gotta give the edge to Denarius Moore. Still, it’s going to be hard to keep a healthy Ford on the bench, and he’s young.

15.03 Jones, Taiwan OAK RB – Tough call here with some nice complementary guys here, but I rolled the dice on the talented Jones. If all goes well, he could be a guy who gets 12-14 carries a game down the road. He is incredibly explosive and, thus, “Gurrific.”

16.10 Housler, Robert ARI TE – One of my favorite dynasty TEs, Housler has a ton of juice, and I would not be surprised if he emerged as the most productive guy at TE here as soon as this year. He has fairly large upside.

Now that I’ve actually done a real startup dynasty league draft, I’m going to working up a smaller draft plan just for a dynasty startup, since I think my draft has gone well. Keep in mind I’m drafting with hardcore FantasyGuru.com subscribers, so they not only know everything in my head, they’re a savvy bunch. That said I like my team.

Congrats on finishing your first Dynasty. Next you should try a 53 man full IDP Roster and step up to the big leagues!

    John,
I noticed in your Sirius FSTA’s Draft some things that make me go hmm.
SF DEF in the 8th round. Wondering if you have any comment on that? Had to pick quickly on that one or something? Not saying anything wrong with the pick though, just curious, seems different for you.
Also, noticed that you like Stafford better this year. I know… if he stays healthy, but I recall really blogging here about how he needs to be rated much higher very early last year. That’s about all I was right on last year, BTW=)
You really like the DET RBs. Kevin Smith did certainly come through last year. Do you prefer Best to the other two, Best went in the 6th in that draft. Just curious?
Do you really like Fred Davis more than V.Davis, or was that an error?

    Great Dynasty Draft, and
Great beginning on the Sirius Draft
and great Early coverage this year!
    loved your site for years.

    - SF defense I was not ready to pick, so I just took them. It’s not easy to host a radio show and keep the draft moving, and also drafting while doing that.

    - I hear you, but at least we’ve given him glowing reviews from day one, the injury factor was a major concern.

    - I don’t know about “really” like, but Smith is probably your week 1 starter and I can see him being very handy early in the year. I think Best has a chance to stay on the field now that they absolutely know they can’t overexpose him no matter what.

    - I took Fred Davis after Vernon was drafted

  5. When I originally commented I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I recieve 4 emails with the same comment. There has to be a way you are able to remove me from that service? Many thanks!|

I am really impressed along with your writing talents as neatly as with the layout on your blog. Is that this a paid topic or did you modify it your self? Anyway keep up the excellent high quality writing, it is rare to look a great blog like this one these days..

  10. Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your post seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The style and design look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Thanks

  11. I have noticed that sensible real estate agents almost everywhere are getting set to FSBO Marketing and advertising. They are realizing that it’s not just placing a sign post in the front property. It’s really regarding building relationships with these suppliers who sooner or later will become consumers. So, if you give your time and energy to supporting these dealers go it alone – the “Law connected with Reciprocity” kicks in. Thanks for your blog post.

  12. Thats amusing! But thanks again because of this post
