Buffalo Wild Wings Update: Week Eight

The moves I outlined here last week worked well, and I did not even have time to pick up the Redskin defense, as I said I wanted to (they went off). Picking up TE Todd Heap (2 TDs) and Mike Williams (25 points) worked out well, and despite my RB issues, my team went off and knocked off a 5-1 squad.

So I’m now 4-3, but I made a huge mistake last week. Since I lost Jermichael Finley, I wanted the upside of TE Jacob Tamme, even though he was off, and I figured I could drop one of my stash-and-hope RBs and pick him up this week, but I picked the wrong one: LeGarrette Blount. Of course, I couldn’t get him on the WW this week, so I could have potentially saved my dire RB situation, but I did not. This after not taking the time to pick up Ryan Torain before he was a hot commodity, and I knew he would be a hot commodity. The pickups are tough in this league; there’s nothing left for the most part.

So this week, I have to roll with C.J. Spiller as my #2 RB, which is not good. I’m loaded at [...]

Buffalo Wild Wings Update: Week Seven

I have been absolutely buried lately, so I have not had time to cover this league. Things have not gone well. In Week Five, I got destroyed by injuries, as I lost my bye week fill-in Bruce Gradkowski early in his game, and I also lost my stud TE in Jermichael Finley and WR Mark Clayton, who I started based on his great matchup.  So I lost in Week Five, and I’m probably done in this league after also losing a close one in Week Six, despite having a very good week. I picked up Nick Folk, Minnesota’s defense, and TE Brandon Pettigrew, and they all came though, but it wasn’t enough.

So now I’m down Finley, Clayton, Portis (still kicking myself for not getting Torain the weekend he was activated off the practice squad, no time), and now also Malcom Floyd (who’s injury last week likely cost me a win).

But I’m not giving up, and this week I picked up Mike Williams (Sea) for this PPR, and I grabbed PK Mike Nugent, since he’s been really good. I tried to get Seattle or KC on the WW for my defense, but was unable to. With Pettigrew off, I picked up [...]

Buffalo Wild Wings Update: Week Five

I wish I was tracking some of my other teams because I am doing well in all of them but one, but this Buffalo Wild Wings league is pretty decent. Last week, I was still stinging from missing out on RB Ryan Torain, who I should have picked up before Week Three was played. I knew he was going to be a factor as soon as he was activated off the practice squad the Friday leading up to Week Three, and I blew it by not picking him up. Unfortunately, my fantasy teams are out-of-sight and out-of-mind late in the week after the initial round of waivers are run, which is why I always remind people to always check the late-week needs and the WW because you can often make some great pickups on Friday-Sunday.

Last week, I was staring at starting RBs Clinton Portis and C.J. Spiller, so I knew I was in trouble. I had the Saint defense, and they obviously had to be cut, since I needed a defense that potentially packed a punch in Week Four. I got one in the New York Giants, and they carried my Adrian Peterson-less ass to victory in Week Four with [...]

Buffalo Wild Wings Update: Week Four

I had a nice win last week in the Buffalo Wild Wings league to improve to 2-1. My team was led by Tom Brady and Adrian Peterson, and I got huge performances by Jermichael Finley, Jeremy Maclin, and Malcom Floyd.

Unfortunately, I’m still really light at RB, as my C.J Spiller pick in the 5th round continues to come back to haunt me. I have some solid depth guys like Willis McGahee and Chester Taylor, but they’re just not doing anything. This week, with Peterson off, I’m in trouble. I have Clinton Portis, but missed out on Ryan Torain on the WW this week, and that was my fault because I should have picked him up last weekend. I knew he was getting a chance, but I have too many things going on over the weekend.

So it’s time for me to get some stash-and-hope RBs on my roster. The best I could do this week was Anthony Dixon and LeGarrette Blount, who does have a chance to emerge in Tampa as a guy who may get 10+ carries a game, including the goal line carries. It’s far from a lock, but he has a chance.

This week’s lineup is shaky with no [...]

On Tuesday, July 22, I participated in a 12-team, non-PPR mock draft with several industry leaders for USA Today Sports Weekly’s fantasy football special edition, which hits newsstands on August 4. I’ve been given permission to blog about the draft and my strategy, which is greatly appreciated, and I hope it sparks some discussion. This was a non-PPR league […]

If you follow along over at my Twitter account @FG_Dolan (shameless plug), you’ve probably noticed my undying love for Jordy Nelson, and the fact that I’d happily welcome him onto any of my fantasy teams this year. First of all, he’s madly productive as is: he hauled in 85/1314/8 last year and averaged 16.5 FPG in a PPR league. That was good enough to rank h […]
