One thing I’m noticing this year is the abundance of stash-and-hope RBs this year, so while this is all covered on the site, here’s a very quick look at the best ones. These are mostly non-obvious one, so please don’t ask why I didn’t include McCoy, Mendenhall, etc.

Bernard Scott, Cin – Again, I like him a lot. He’s very talented, and Cedric Benson is no gemstone.

Danny Ware, NYG – Really impressed with his receiving ability, which bodes very well for him. If Brandon Jacobs goes down, Ware’s going to play a lot. I still like Ahmad Bradshaw more, but Ware will play a lot.

James Davis, Cle – Again, he’s looked much better than expected, and Jamal Lewis is close to being eligible for carbon dating.

Glen Coffee, SF – If Frank Gore is out, it’s 20 carries a game for Coffee if at all possible. Since he’s looked better than expected, that has to result in good production.

Tashard Choice, Dal – Really good player, but only #3. Still, if Marion Barber goes down, Choice’s value goes way up.

Mike Goodson, Car – I gotta tell you: this guy’s really good. He’s got excellent quickness and speed, and he’s had some huge holes [...]

I wanted to check in here, if for no other reason than the fact that I haven’t in a while. Obviously, I’ve been overwhelmed keeping up with everything we’re going for the site. This has been the busiest summer yet for me, and while that is a very good thing, my head is spinning. These next 10-12 days are going to be even worse.

I’m still getting my hands around the upcoming 2009 season, and I’m really close. But there are a few straggler situations I figured I’d check in with here today, just so they are covered. There are still some position battles and roles up for grabs, and we should have a clearer picture in the coming week. But here are some situations flying under the radar.

Another league I’m doing this year is the Fantasy Football Players Championship. This is a newer entry into the high-stakes fray, but they appear to be rock solid, and they have been through a full season in 2008. Their live draft is in Las Vegas, but I will be drafting online.

I have to give credit where credit is due with the subject title: my boy Caplan came up with the term “Internet Icon” when talking about players who become over-hyped on the Net in the month of August.

Hey, I’ve been guilty of over-hyping some players in the past, and I’ll likely do it again, but one thing I’ve learned is that you can’t talk yourself into a player just because you like his talent and you’re looking to catch lightening in a bottle. Sometimes, people get overly enamored with players, and they ignore some facts, and, quite frankly, reality.

I see that happening again this summer, so I thought covering some of them would make for a good post.

Here are the guys I see emerging this year as Internet Icons, and are getting too much love in fantasy drafts.

Matt Schaub – I’ve been on the bandwagon since day one, and he’s definitely shown flashes. I’m thinking this could be the year, too, but that doesn’t mean he’s worth taking in the 7th round, which is where he’s going. The guy is still very injury-prone, so after calling him a value for the last two years, I think he’s kind of overvalued.

Today at 1pm ET I have the official NFL.com expert league draft, this is the real deal, not a mock draft. I’m the defending champ, and I’m going to try to focus on this one and do well. I have the 11th pick, so it will be interesting to see if I’m inclined to go RB-WR, WR-WR, or RB-RB. All three are viable moves, depending on who’s there.

I’ll post my picks as they come starting just after 1pm ET.

As I did last year, I’m playing to win, and trying hard to avoid over-paying for a QB. I won this league last year with my final pick of the draft, QB Kurt Warner, leading the charge.

1st pick – Randy Moss, tough call, but I like it.
2nd pick – DeAngelo Williams. I just like it.
3rd pick – Reggie Bush. Again, PPR, I’m playing to win.
4th pick – Chad Ochocino. One of the remaining quality go-to guys left, like it.

5th pick – Kurt Warner – It’s 6 pts per TD pass, so the QBs are valuable. Gotta suck it up and go for clearly the best option if healthy.
