Welcoming the two new guys

I wanted to take a minute today to formerly welcome our two new full-time employees, Joseph Dolan and Matthew Camp, who’ve been officially on board for a week and a half.

This is a bad economy, so as you can imagine we got flooded with resumes. That worked out for us well in this search for two new full-timers, however. I whittled down 250+ resumes to 30, then to about six and ultimately made the decision to hire Joe and Matt. So far, both decisions look like good ones.

Both are young guys, in their early-20s, which I think is a good thing. They’re eager, fresh, and ready to immerse themselves in covering the NFL and possibly MLB (in 2010) for a living, plus they bring with them a perspective and an understanding of their generation that no one else in our company can fully grasp.

But while they’re both young guys, they know more about sports than probably 99% of the general population. Both have strong backgrounds in the NFL, with Joe previously working for the Philadelphia Eagles team website and magazine, and Matt being very close to the game for his entire adult life due to his father, who is an [...]
