What to expect from here on out at FantasyGuru.com

This is a tough week for us, since it’s both the preseason and the regular season, so I’m chiming in here to let people know how this week is going to go.

First of all, we have a revised version of the homepage for the regular season, but we’re probably not going to roll that out until Week Two because every year we do this for Week One we get 100+ emails from panicked readers yet to draft who simply aren’t looking on the page for the preseason content. One year, we had a link to the preseason stuff that was literally

This Big

On the site and people still didn’t see it.

We’ll be updating the projections and cheat sheets for the preseason one more time, either today or tomorrow morning, depending upon the availability of the people who make them happen for us, and then we’ll be on to Week One.

We’ll be working on Week One Rankings & Projections early in the week, of course, and my goal is to have them up first thing Wednesday morning. We’ll also have an injury update on Tuesday, and then Wednesday we’ll basically pick up [...]

FantasyGuru.com Magazine Draft Concludes tonight

Tonight is the night we finish up the remaining 6 rounds of the FantasyGuru.com Magazine Expert Draft. We do only 14 rounds in May, and then finish when things are more clear here in August.

My May draft went well, although I would have tweaked it had we started around now. Here’s my team so far:

Palmer, Carson CIN QB         –        8        5.05

Addai, Joseph IND RB          –        4        1.05

Forte, Matt CHI RB    –        8        6.08

Maroney, Laurence NEP RB   –        4        4.08

Williams, DeAngelo CAR RB    –        9        8.08

Bruce, Isaac SFO WR          –        9        10.08

Colston, Marques NOS WR    –        9        3.05

Crayton, Patrick DAL WR      –        10      9.05

Edwards, Braylon CLE WR     –        5        2.08

Gage, Justin TEN WR           –        6        11.05

Clark, Dallas IND TE   –        4        7.05

Scheffler, Tony DEN TE       –        8        12.08

Brown, Josh STL PK   –        5        14.08

Cowboys, Dallas DAL Def      –        10      13.0

Steve Slaton intrigues me

Quick post here if you’re drafting this weekend, I was very impressed with Steve Slaton last night. He’s a smaller back, but he’s not tiny, and he surprised me how he played bigger than he is and does seem to handle the physical aspect of the game. Greg Cosell said this to me last night and I totally saw it this weekend. Note he was added to our players to target list last week.
I have zero faith in Ahman Green and Chris Brown, they are incredible injury risks. Chris Taylor is nothing special, and neither is Darius Walker. Slaton is young, fresh, and he brings some juice to their offense. That offense could be very good.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease don’t accuse me of creating hype. Please don’t expect the next great fantasy sleeper. Please don’t expect him to go off Week One. Please don’t get upset if he doesn’t do much.

These are the facts; Slaton looks good and the other backs are aged, injury-prone, or nothing special. I would not be surprised at all if he was a key player in their backfield.

Ok, the season needs to start because I think I’m on edge here a little bit…

Last-Minute “Feelings”

It’s a big weekend for drafts, so I thought it would be useful to go over some player who have emerged recently as guys we like, for various reasons. I don’t want to go into everyone because that would take all day and it’s covered elsewhere, but there are a few guys jumping off the page.

Here’s a quick look:

Kevin Walter – Caplan’s leading the charge on this one, and I’m completely with him. We really like this guy, and we’re loving him these days now that it’s clear his role is set as the #2. Everyone loves to pick apart predictions, and that’s fine, but when we make them it’s more about potential, and at this time of the year, that’s all we can really look at. So here’s a prediction and comparison. If Andre Johnson is out Andre Davis would have a lot of value, but Walter would be the closest thing to this year’s Wes Welker value-wise in a PPR.

Reggie Williams – Assuming the knee isn’t an issue, of course. We had Williams on the Sirius show last December and he seemed really focused on doing whatever he can to [...]

Solution to the picking late in the 1st dilemma

I think I might have come up with a solution to the picking late in the first round dilemma, so if you have a late pick, check out the lead story on the site called “Bottom Feeding.”

With this being championship week, I will not be focusing on the obvious players since they are going to be in your lineup no matter what. Instead, I will be taking a quick look at each game with more emphasis on players you’ll be making decisions on this week. Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots The fantasy QB situation has been a steady rotation of matc […]

It is playoff time in the world of fantasy football, so if you are still making meaningful lineup decisions, I salute you for getting this far. As we have been saying, this is no time to be a hero, so a running theme in this week’s blog will be my comfort level with players. Let’s get into this week’s games. Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers The Buccane […]

If you are still alive, congratulations. With just a few weeks remaining in the fantasy football season, now is not the time to be a hero. Being safe is not a bad thing and there are plenty of good matchups that should allow you to do just that this week. Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens Ray Rice and the Ravens ran all over the Browns last week and cou […]
