Checking in from L.A. at the tail end of my “Vacation,” the one I will definitely need another one to recover from (luckily it’s still quiet for 10-14 days after I return) with a few site upgrades we’ve recently implemented.
But first, a couple of interesting notes from the last two days of the vacation.
Saw my team the Dodgers spank the Marlins yesterday. Pitcher Chad Billingsly was dominant.
OF Andruw Jones may go down as the biggest free agent bust in sports history. His season may go down as the worst season by an MLB starter of all time. He’s pathetic.
My oldest kid convinced me to get Pete Rose’s autograph at a sports memorabilia store at the Forum Shops in Vegas. Long story short, he’s asking who to sign the picture to, my oldest or youngest, and I say my oldest because my youngest has no clue who Rose is and really doesn’t care, whereas my oldest is reading his book for school (required summer reading) and has probably 200+ baseball collectibles including 50+ autographs. I certainly wasn’t going to pay 2X for his autograph. Long story short, because I apparently dissed my youngest, Rose berated me […]
If anyone recalls, last year at this time I wrote that I’d like to take my two oldest sons (15 and 10) on a road trip to California (from NJ).
It sounds crazy, but I’m doing it. Today.
Our two year old twins are simply too out of control to take on a family vacation this year, and with my oldest closing in on college, this is the time to do something my oldest kids will never forget. This is also about the deadest 2 weeks on the NFL calendar, so this is likely my last post until next week.
Leaving NJ today, we’re stopping off in St. Louis, KC and a Royals game, Denver/Colorado Springs, Grand Canyon, Vegas, and finally, LA for a couple of days. I’m not that crazy, though, since we’ll be flying back from LA next week, not driving.
Vegas will be cool, but the highlight for me most likely will be the Dodger game this Sunday. As a Dodger fan and someone who loves Southern California, that’s as good as it gets. BTW, if anyone reading is going to be at that Dodger game, drop me a line and maybe we can have a […]
Anyone who reads this blog or the site knows we haven’t said too many good things about QB Vince Young, and in fact we’ve been pretty hard on him. But we do like the post-hype sleeper, and it looks like Young is one in 2008. Maybe not a true sleeper, but he’s certainly a value, and that is evident in our most recent online poll. I’m sure our readers are influenced by our lack of love for Young in the past, but he got none in that last poll we had up. Here are the final votes:
Jay Cutler – 131 Votes
Matt Schaub – 130 votes
Aaron Rodgers – 83 votes
Philip Rivers – 48 votes
Jason Campbell – 22 votes
Tarvaris Jackson – 16 votes
Vince Young – 10 votes
440 Votes Total
I dealt with how all the respondents are on the right track with the guys at the top, and even the bottom, but Young getting only 10 votes really stands out. From Weeks 4-17 in 2006, Young was actually a top-10 fantasy QB, so he should be getting more love than he’s getting. Maybe it’s a function of the word “breakout” because I don’t think he’ll break out this year per se. But […]
Caplan and I recorded a new podcast today, this one on “Breakout” players for 2008. We covered some relatively big names like Cutler, Schaub, S. Young, and Daniels, but also some low-end guys. It runs 63 minutes, and it’s a good one. To listen on the site, simply click the play buttom in the podcast area, or head here to download:
