A Dream Draft

I got a call today from a friend of mine who covers an NFL team for a major paper. He’s always kind enough to hook me up with the inside dirt on his team, so I was happy to help him with his fantasy draft today. I basically, walked him through the first 6-7 rounds, and then he went off our stuff. The results were very, very good, so I thought I’d share. This looks like an All FantasyGuru.com Draft Plan team to me.

Only 10 teams, and the QBs did go early. I want one of the top QBs, but not if they are going too early, so we strayed away from getting one of the top guys. Here’s his team:

QBs: Romo, Favre
RBs: Tomlinson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Adrian Peterson, Brian Leonard
WRs: Steve Smith, Javon Walker, B. Berrian, Santonio Holmes, DJ Hackett, Devery Henderson
TEs: Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels
K: Rackers
DEF: Chicago

I would have taken Rex Grossman as my backup, however. Grossman didnt even get drafted.

Real-Time Ranking Updates

I figured I’d pop in here to post up some of the ranking updates we did this morning. I know people are drafting this weekend, so we’re trying to literally be up to the minute with our rankings. Our fun and learning never ends…here’s what we did today (first Barney reference ever on the site, by the way):

Marshawn Lynch tumbled a couple of spots behind a pair of proven and reliable veterans in Deuce McAllister and Thomas Jones. Lynch has been up-and-down. He’s shown flashes for sure, but he’s also shown signs that he’s not a special back. This is not Adrian Peterson. He’s a shaky #2 fantasy back at this point, but you might be able to get away with him as your #2 if you have a great team around him.  Lee Evans jumped over Donald Driver to the #13 spot at WR. This is because of yet another big game on Friday night and due to Driver’s foot issue. Driver should be ready for Week One, but that is not a lock just yet.  Bo Scaife has moved into the #12 position at TE. After scoring a TD last night and dropping another potential score, we’re ready [...]

I’ve been given permission to blog about the draft and my strategy, which is greatly appreciated, and I hope it sparks some discussion. This was a non-PPR league […]

If you follow along over at my Twitter account @FG_Dolan (shameless plug), you’ve probably noticed my undying love for Jordy Nelson, and the fact that I’d happily welcome him onto any of my fantasy teams this year. First of all, he’s madly productive as is: he hauled in 85/1314/8 last year and averaged 16.5 FPG in a PPR league. That was good enough to rank h […]
