The Keeper Blog Is Open For Bid-nizz!

Hey Gang!

Well, it’s good to be back in the Shop, scissors and minature whisk broom in hand, ready to pass the time between shaves talking fantasy football – Keeper leagues to be precise.

A couple of weeks ago our boy Hansen ran the idea of hosting a Keeper League Blog past me and it just felt right. I love the format, enjoy the extra layers of planning needed in team building, etc.

If all goes according to plan we’ll not only discuss individual players, but also tap on such topics as keeper league philosophies, player evaluation methods, and whatever else strikes our fancy. I’m also up to the occasional reader Q-and-A.

I’ve also asked John to jump in on this bad boy – even if it’s to disagree with my assessments. And why not since his insights are the ones we’re all interested in anyway, right? (Hey, I await the release of each updated keeper rankings as much anyone.)

At any rate, I’ll do my best to post new thoughts every couple of days and we’ll see how it goes. We’re going in fresh and revved up for this Saturday’s NFL Draft, so here’s to hoping this will become a successful feature.

KC to draft a RB

The Chiefs are in a really tough spot with Larry Johnson. It’s clear they are hesitant to sign him to what would surely be the richest contract in NFL history, but how can they turn their backs on a player who is not yet in his prime and who put together one of the most productive two-year runs in league history?

Johnson is a very difficult player and person to evaluate, not that I know him or have met him. He appears to have a desire to be great – even if it’s fueled by proving his doubters wrong – but there are times when I know he’s dogging it on the field, and that’s not good. He has a reputation for being a little too into his social life and who he’s hanging around with, as opposed to focusing on football, but it’s impossible to argue with his production on the field. If he is dogging it from time to time, he’s still better than everyone else, other than LaDainian Tomlinson.

The Chiefs are barely treading water in terms of being a competitive football team and playoff contender. If they aren’t rebuilding now, they will [...]

  • Position Battle Playing Time for First Full Week of Preseason Action August 13, 2014
We continue to update the position battles around the league, but in this blog, I thought looking at preseason playing time would be interesting. The depth chart doesn’t always tell the whole story and it’s certainly worth noting when players get in the game and who they get to play with, whether it’s with the first-team offense or the backups. If you’re loo […]

  • Poll Result Analysis: RB Sleeper Candidate Targets August 12, 2014
Over the last week, we posted a poll asking you which RB sleeper candidate was at the top of your targets list. The results varied throughout the week and Falcon rookie RB Devonta Freeman led most of the way, but things certainly changed after a full week of preseason games:                           As you can see, the final results put 49er rookie RB Carlo […]

  • How the New Focus on Defensive Penalties may Affect IDP August 11, 2014
FantasyGuru.com IDP Analyst Corby Yarbrough can be found on Twitter @Corby_Yarbrough. Not that there is anything we as IDP players can do about it, but I just needed to vent my grief that an already inconsistent aspect of fantasy football has the potential to drive us even a little more crazy in 2014. Week One of the NFL preseason is in the books, and if the […]
