Fantasy Guru Daily: 7/20/11

While the focus this week has been all about a possible end to the labor madness, the bigger story, at least when it comes to fantasy football, centers around the availability of one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game…

Looks like Colt fans will be seeing a lot of Curtis Painter in the preseason. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Peyton won’t be ready for the start of camp … as he continues to recover from May neck surgery. The Colts are scheduled to open training camp on July 31, but it’s unknown when Manning will be able to participate, which puts a huge cloud of doubt over his status for the season, especially as a top fantasy QB. Manning had surgery on his neck back in March 2010, which didn’t cause him to miss any time, but the problems kept coming back during the season due to a calcium buildup. He attempted to avoid surgery by looking into other options after the Super Bowl, but this discomfort lingered and doctors insisted surgery was the only way to go. When the surgery was initially reported, Colt owner Jim Irsay didn’t seem alarmed, noting that the recovery was expected to be six to [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 6/17/11

The big news Friday morning is that some owners are apparently resisting movements on the labor front, but that should not surprise anyway. Instead, we focus on the happiness of a Jacksonville tight end and the running game in New York.

Lewis looking for more … Jaguar TE Marcedes Lewis emerged as one of the league’s most complete players at the position in 2010, and he was also a very viable fantasy option because of his knack for getting into the endzone. After his strong season, the Jaguars opted to put the franchise tag on Lewis – a move he is not pleased with. Of course, we have no idea if a franchise tag will mean anything until the labor mess is resolved, but Lewis said he wants a long-term deal to stay in Jacksonville and feels he’s put in the work necessary over the last five years to warrant more than just a one-year tag. Lewis caught 58 passes for 700 yards and 10 TDs last season, and the numbers certainly jumped out considering he had a total of 7 TDs in his first four seasons. After closely studying the initial ADPs this year for the ADP article we posted on Friday and seeing how fantasy owners are scarfing up RBs like it’s going out of style, one of my main missions this year is to find some RBs who have a chance to be impactful but aren’t getting any love, and I have one in AFC East. With veteran Mike Goodson having an ugly off- […]

In about a month, I will be whipping up my initial and early Draft Plan, which will simply cover all the positions and how to approach them. In the summer, I’ll tweak that and quadruple the size of the article, as I always do in the summer. That will cover a plan of action by position, go pick-by-pick through the first 10 rounds, and much more. But in order […]
