Fantasy Guru Daily: 3/30/11

Today is one of those days that can occasionally be expected during a lockout. By that, I mean there is very little football news. Fortunately, when struggling to find news to post on the blog, we learned we can count on Buc CB Aqib Talib to mess up.

Felony warrant issued for Talib… Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as a result of a March 21 incident outside of a Dallas suburb. Police say Talib and his mother, Okolo, fired a gun at his sister’s boyfriend, then interfered with an emergency phone call from the same location. While we’re obviously in no position to judge Talib outside the

court of law, he has been in trouble before and the Buccaneers have to seriously consider cutting ties with him. That’s easier said than done, however; Talib is certainly one of the top young CBs in the NFL, and it’s such a difficult position to get consistent play from. Because of the labor situation, the Bucs didn’t say much regarding the incident, other than that they were “deeply troubled.” But there’s no doubt the Bucs [...]

Roster moves are done for the time being, as all eyes are on the ongoing CBA talks. Even though negotiations have been extended, the deadline for roster moves passed last Friday, which has put the league at a standstill until a new deal is reached, which will hopefully happen this week.

Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that communication through mediation and negotiation is better than going to litigation.

NFL, NFLPA resume talks … on Monday afternoon after agreeing to an extension last Friday. The two sides were expected to use the weekend to figure out their plans of action heading into this week’s talks. While an extension of talks came down to the two sides agreeing to seven more days of mediation, teams are no longer allowed to make any roster moves with the CBA considered expired. Multiple reports have suggested the sides are far apart on revenue splits, but that they’ve also made significant progress in the last two days of talks compared to the little that was accomplished in the two years leading up to the deadline. Before the sides agreed to an extension last Thursday, the NFLPA was apparently just minutes away from decertifying, which would have [...]

  • First draft of the 2015 season April 14, 2015
Although it is disgustingly early for a 2015 fantasy football draft for most, we are closing in on the time of the year when a draft is at least viable. Free agency is basically over, so all we have to wait for now is the draft. I’ve also been intrigued with what our friends at myfantasyleague.com have been doing with their MFL10s. It’s a great idea for the […]

  • Week 17 storylines December 26, 2014
Here are the top stories I’m following for Week 17 Cleveland (7-8) at Baltimore (9-6) Brown QB situation. Brian Hoyer (right shoulder/biceps) did not practice Friday. Rookie Connor Shaw is set to start for them at Baltimore. Do they give Terrance West any snaps to evaluate him? He played 0 snaps last week. Does Josh Gordon do anything to leave us something t […]

  • Week 16 storylines December 19, 2014
Here are the top stories that I will be following in Week 16 for fantasy. Philadelphia (9-5) at Washington (3-11) Robert Griffin III did play better last week, but does it mean anything? It’s hard to trust him even against a beatable secondary and a defense that lost a top pass rusher in Trent Cole. If you’re playing in Week 17, can you trust DeSean Jackson, […]
