2012 NFL Draft Team Needs: NFC North

The 2012 NFL Draft is nearly upon us, and this edition is much clearer than last year, at least in terms of team needs, because free agency has already taken place. Here on the staff blog, I’m breaking down each team’s top needs and fantasy outlook for the draft, going division by division. Today we head to the NFC North, and, if you missed them, check out the AFC East, AFC North, AFC South, AFC West, and NFC East. Got a player you want your team to target? Let me know in the comments.

Also, be sure to take a look at our massive 2012 Pre-Draft Rookie Report, which takes an in-depth look at all the top fantasy prospects.

Chicago Bears

Picks: 19, 50, 79, 111, 150, 184, 220

Top Needs:

1. Offensive Tackle – The Bears addressed the offensive line in the 1st round of last year’s draft by taking Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi, but this unit remains a big issue. Carimi started just two games and had knee surgery, while starting LT J’Marcus Webb has struggled in pass protection. The Bears will have to think hard about drafting someone like Ohio State’s Mike Adams or Stanford’s Jonathan Martin in the 1st round. Yes, [...]

We are in the home stretch in labor negotiations, but of course, this will not be a simple process. The owners are meeting in Atlanta Thursday, and hopefully, the 2011 NFL lockout is in its final moments despite any last-minute issues.

Labor meetings bring confusion … In a perfect world, we’d have a new CBA by the end of today and everyone would be happy. The players would have all voted “yes” yesterday in Washington, and the owners would all vote “yes” in Atlanta today. But if we’ve learned anything over the last four months of lockout living, it’s that nothing is ever easy when it comes to labor disputes. The players’ meetings in Washington were filled with confusion yesterday, delivering us conflicting reports and uncertainty as to how things would play out. Still, the owners expect to vote today, and we should have a settlement and new CBA in the near future. Let’s try to recap what is happening through the words of those covering the situation (keep in mind that the situation is developing by the minute):

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that players representatives gave conditional approval Wednesday to finish a settlement pending the resolution of a [...]

As another session of settlement talks came to an end, we address the Palmer family situation in Cincinnati, as well as Tim Tebow’s apparent 850-yard drives on the golf course.

There is not a lot of groundbreaking football news, but as players continue to conduct workouts, we will gladly accept any football tidbits we can get. Today, the FG Daily takes you to Foxboro, Detroit, Tampa, Nashville, and more.

Brady organizes workouts… Patriot QB Tom Brady is back in the Boston area this week, so he figured he’d call up his teammates

Tom Brady had his fun, but now it's time to get back to work in Boston.

and organize a workout. ESPNBoston.com reports that Brady, who has been working out on his own in California after undergoing foot surgery in January, is back in Boston for some charity work. With charity work set for the weekend, Brady’s Patriot teammates have joined him, and several players are set for organized workouts today. We’re still waiting to see if the Patriots will add a bigger WR to the mix to replace Randy Moss, but one candidate remains deep threat Brandon Tate, who has had a limited role in two seasons. For now, the Patriot offense will continue to be difficult to predict, as Brady spreads the ball around between Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski, and RBs Shane Vereen and [...]

  • 9/5 – 9/6 projections tweaks September 5, 2015
The final cuts are in, but we will most likely continue to have some news trickling out in the NFL over the next 1-2 days regarding roster spots, traded, etc. We’re not going to do our final update on our PDFs and Excel files until Sunday evening at the earliest, but I will but updating the projections on the site all weekend. If you have a draft and are loo […]

  • The latest projections August 30, 2015
Every year on this very day I am faced with the dilemma of having rankings that, despite being less than 2 days old, feel a little stale because of all the action in the critical third preseason game. The problem is it takes forever to update projections, comments, create the PDFs, create the excel files, and update all the apps. It cannot be done over the w […]

  • 8/17 USA Today mock draft August 19, 2015
I did an expert mock draft for USA Today and their special fantasy preview publication that will hit newsstands next week. I admittedly didn’t focus on the just the draft (I was working on several things at the time) and I simply queued up a bunch of players I liked. It wasn’t efficient at all, and I only like the squad (not love), but for what it’s worth th […]
