Fantasy Guru Daily: 5/18/11

Mediation is over once again, so we go back into a period of downtime in Lockout Watch: 2011. We can now spend the next month debating what delicious food was consumed at the important people lunch summit in Minneapolis.

Who picked up the check? … SOMEONE GET THEM SOME WATER. The two sides worked long and hard, with grueling, endless mediation sessions dragging through weeks upon weeks. Oh. Wait. Judge Arthur Boylan ended mediation after two days. Two. Days. So here we are again, left waiting and waiting, likely until the June 3 8th Circuit Court of Appeals hearing, which will probably result in an appeal win by the NFL after two of three judges ruled for the permanent stay on Monday. Well, we could get a ruling from Judge David Doty on damages awarded to the players in the TV case, but that’ll end up back in the 8th Circuit Court anyway.

After two days of mediation in Minneapolis, we have almost no idea about how much progress was made. We know that the league complied with Boylan’s request and came up with an “offer” – an offer that consisted of a couple pages of bulleted points. Retired player and plaintiff [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 5/13/11

Another Friday has come without a peep from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, but as we wait in this endless lockout, Judge Doty is back in the news, while a Saint WR is recovering from significant knee surgery.

Colston underwent microfracture surgery … Not only did Saint WR Marques Colston have wrist surgery this off-season, but he’s also fighting back from microfracture surgery that repaired cartilage around his right knee. It’s the second time he’s had microfracture surgery, as he had a similar operation performed on his left knee in 2009. The good news is Colston is working out with teammates at Tulane University and said he’s doing everything and just needs to get his conditioning back. Despite the injuries, Colston has missed only one game in the last two seasons, and he’s hit 1000 yards four times, with the one exception being a 2008 season in which he missed five games. Colston had minor arthroscopic surgery after Week Sixteen and had the more significant surgery after the playoffs. Colston joins Robert Meachem as Saint WRs recovering from surgery, as Meachem underwent ankle surgery. Both are working out now with players such as WR Devery Henderson and rookie RB Mark [...]

Here are the top stories that I will be following in Week 16 for fantasy. Philadelphia (9-5) at Washington (3-11) Robert Griffin III did play better last week, but does it mean anything? It’s hard to trust him even against a beatable secondary and a defense that lost a top pass rusher in Trent Cole. If you’re playing in Week 17, can you trust DeSean Jackson, […]

Here are the top stories I’ll be following in Week 15 with some insight on some of them. Pittsburgh (8-5) at Atlanta (5-8) Will Julio Jones play? It’s obviously a huge key for Matt Ryan’s ability to hang with the Steelers in a high-scoring game. Without Jones, they have no explosiveness in the passing game and Ryan will have to dink-and-dunk to Roddy White a […]

Here are all the storylines that I will be following in Week 14 along with some commentary and information on the matchups. Pittsburgh (7-5) at Cincinnati (8-3-1) Can Ben Roethlisberger play better against a solid secondary that has limited him to only 16.0 points a game against them in his last four games? Is Heath Miller someone we can actually trust in th […]
