Fantasy Guru Daily: 6/16/11

Even though the lockout remains intact, rumors of player movement continue to swirl despite teams being unable to (legally) discuss contracts or trades. In an effort to be on top of any potential moves once the lockout is lifted, we’ve continued to monitor player workouts, reports, and rumors from around the league, a few of which we’ll pass along today.

Cedric Benson said he wanted to express himself more in 2011. This would be a good start.

Benson shows interest in returning to Bengals … after working out with the team at the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday. Benson, who is technically a free agent, has reportedly attended multiple player-led workouts, which he called “an opportunity to get some real good football work in.” After voicing frustration with the offense and his role during and after the season, it didn’t appear that he’d return to the team for the 2011 season, but with the firing of OC Bob Bratkowski and subsequent hiring of Jay Gruden to take over the offense, Benson looks interested in returning to the black and orange. Gruden talked with Benson in February, explaining that his vision for the offense, a West Coast system, would feature a commitment [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 5/9/11

With no news on the labor front and teams unable to communicate with players or undrafted free agents (legally), there is not much news coming out of this weekend, so we’ll just take a quick look at the rumblings from around the league.

The Redskins are reportedly the front runners to land the services of QB Vince Young, although they’ll have to wait for player movement to be allowed since the Titans still have Young under contract and will probably try to trade Young before cutting him loose. Interestingly enough, the Redskins still have Donovan McNabb under contract, but his time in Washington was pretty much up when Rex Grossman took over the starting job at the end of last season. The only other QB on Washington’s roster is John Beck, who HC Mike Shanahan seems to like enough to possibly consider as a starter. We doubt that happens, but what else can Shanahan do right now with so much uncertainty when it comes to the time period he’ll have to shape the roster?

In other QB news, it looks like Chad Henne will likely get another crack at the starting job in Miami. Once again, the somewhat soft QB market and [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 3/8/11

Extended CBA talks have begun, and as they continue for this week, there will not be much else to talk about in the NFL world. Despite the extension, there will not be any roster moves, so we are stuck anxiously waiting for a deal to hopefully get done.

Back to mediation … Representatives of the NFLPA and the league reconvened in Washington on Monday for Day 12 of mediation and the first day since extending the deadline a week. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t much news to report, and we should get a greater sense of what’s going on as the week progresses – just like last week. The closer we get to the deadline, the more pressure there is for the two sides to act. Perhaps the most important thing to watch will be whether or not the NFL actually opts for more financial transparency and opens its books. The National Football Post’s Andrew Brandt says an agreement hinges on the word “risk.” So, once again, we sit here and wait and hope for the best come Friday.

Benson could stay in Cincinnati … While QB Carson Palmer apparently wants nothing more than to leave the Bengals, RB

Bengal RB Cedric Benson [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 2/8/11

With the 2010 season in the books, we now move on to what should be a very interesting off-season. Speculation on the labor deal, free agency, and further coaching changes are in full swing, so let us take a look at the latest news from around the league.

Royal clicked better with QB Kyle Orton in their second year together, but his role will probably never be as big as it was when Jay Cutler was under center.

Eddie Royal undergoes hip surgery … and could be out for up to six months. While he could return for OTAs in May (if they take place), the recovery may end up keeping him sidelined even longer. Despite the injury, Royal didn’t miss any games in 2010 and caught 59 balls for 627 yards and 3 TDs playing primarily out of the slot. Royal is entering his fourth season in the league and the final year of his rookie deal.

Darrelle Revis wants Chad Ochocinco … to join him as a member of the New York Jets. Revis said he’s been in Ochocinco’s ear during the last week and believes the veteran receiver could do well as a Jet. However, Ochocinco [...]

  • Week 3 story lines September 18, 2014
There are plenty of story lines in the NFL right now, and here’s a quick list of the top ones I’m following in Week 3… Tampa Bay (0-2) at Atlanta (1-1) The continued emergence of Bobby Rainey, who the coaches really like and who looks to carry the mail this week. Even if Doug Martin returns, Martin could actually handle the Mike James role behind Rainey. Rai […]

While I’m covering these storylines, I’ll also try to include some fantasy tips and tidbits. I’ll probably place these in my weekly strategy article, but I’ll also put it up on the blog. I have 82 story lines for […]

  • 12-team NFFC draft results (from 8/30) August 31, 2014
Here are the results of the 12-team PPR 3rd round reversal NFFC 20-round draft I participated in last night in New York City. I was pretty pleased with the draft and felt I was generally ahead of the curve. While I did have to pay a premium for some players early, I did get solid value for others later. In a high-stakes draft, you have to be very proactive a […]
