We are officially in April, and no worries, we are not about to pull any April Fools’ Day jokes here in the Fantasy Guru Daily. Instead, we sit here in the calm before the storm as we await the April 6 preliminary hearing in Brady v. NFL.
Pennington gets hurt again … To call free agent QB Chad Pennington injury-prone would be an understatement at this point, as he tore his ACL in a pickup basketball game and will undergo surgery with Dr. James Andrews next week. This comes after he dislocated his shoulder after just two plays in 2010. That, of course, came after a shoulder injury ended his 2009 season in Week Three. Pennington has attempted a total of two passes since September 2009, and with a torn ACL on top of the shoulder problems, it’s getting harder and harder to see him making an impact in the NFL again. According to the Sun-Sentinel, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano has expressed interest in Pennington as an assistant coach, which seems like a good move for Pennington at this point.
Your lockout news for the day … We know how much everyone just loves lockout news, so for today, we bring you [...]
There still is not much to report on the labor front aside from the fact that the NFL and the players continue their mediated sessions. While the vow of silence continues, no news seems to be good news, as it was not a certainty that they would make it the full seven days without one side walking out. But here we were on Day Six, and talks continue. On we go to the rest of the news of the day:

strong finish to the season, it’s certainly on the rise now. The Saints cut veteran TE Jeremy Shockey, who battled injuries in 2010 and ended up 4th on the team with 41 catches for 409 yards and 3 TDs. Shockey, who will be 31 years old by the time the season starts, has never played all 16 games in a season and has missed 10 regular season games in three years with the Saints. Shockey would have made $4.7 [...]
Hey, look at that! Positive news on the labor front! Okay, there is no reason to get excited yet, but any positive news is good news when it comes to the CBA.
Get ready for heavy doses of CBA talk … Thursday brought forth two seemingly important developments in the CBA talks between the owners and the NFLPA. For one, the two sides are scheduled to start a seven-day period of negotiations on Friday. It’s entirely possible that nothing happens and someone walks out well before seven days have been reached, but for now, it’s also possible that we will actually get seven straight days. At the very least, talking is better than not talking. Second, these negotiations will include a mediator, as the two sides have agreed to allow the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to oversee things. These two developments by no means indicate that a deal will be reached by March 3 or any time soon, but they are certainly both positives, and mediation can only help. We’ll take any positive news we can get.
