2012 NFL Draft Team Needs: NFC East

The 2012 NFL Draft is nearly upon us, and this edition is much clearer than last year, at least in terms of team needs, because free agency has already taken place. Here on the staff blog, I’m going to break down each team’s top needs and fantasy outlook for the draft, going division by division. Today we head to the NFC East, and, if you missed them, check out the AFC East, AFC North, AFC South, and AFC West. Got a player you want your team to target? Let me know in the comments.

Also, be sure to take a look at our massive 2012 Pre-Draft Rookie Report, which takes an in-depth look at all the top fantasy prospects.

Dallas Cowboys

Picks: 14, 45, 81, 113, 135, 152, 186, 222

Top Needs:

1. Safety – The Cowboys signed former Jet Brodney Pool, but this unit is still in need of a playmaker. The Cowboys have had frequent issues on the back end, and they could be in perfect position with the 14th overall pick to draft Alabama SS Mark Barron, who is easily the best all-around safety in the draft, capable of making plays in the run game and against the pass.

2. Cornerback – The [...]

As we wait for more positive news on the labor front, the weekend brought injury news for a couple of big-name players, including the possible end of a career.

Is T.O.'s career over? Next question.

The end of the T.O. era? … We already knew that we probably wouldn’t be seeing Terrell Owens in a Bengal jersey again in 2011, leaving us with another offseason of uncertainty for the 37-year-old WR. Well, now we don’t know if T.O. will even play again at all. ESPN reports that Owens tore his ACL and underwent knee surgery. This follows a previously undisclosed injury and a torn meniscus that cut his 2010 season short in Week Fourteen. ESPN’s report indicates that Owens won’t be ready to play until November at the earliest, meaning a team would have to take a chance on him late down the stretch. He showed he could still play last year despite losing a step, as he had a huge stretch toward the middle of the season and finished with 72/983/9. He’s played for four teams in seven years (three teams in the last three years) after spending his first eight seasons in San Francisco, and now he’ll need a [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 6/6/11

We continue to hope lockout talks move in a positive direction after a day in court last Friday, but today we focus on more football, headlined by a prison release in New York and some clarity in the Jets’ backfield.

Burress to play left field, hit 7th … Former Giant WR Plaxico Burress was released from prison after nearly two years Monday morning, and since there’s nothing else to talk about, HE WAS WEARING A PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES HAT, WHICH MEANS HE’S GOING TO THE EAGLES. There has actually been speculation that the Eagles are a potential landing spot for Burress, and Michael Vick has voiced his support of that move recently, saying:

Is Andy Reid on the other end of the phone?

“I think certainly Plaxico is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder the same way I did, and he’ll go out and help this football team to whatever capacity he can. I think the guys would be willing to embrace him and bring him in. If that happens? Who knows? We talking about ‘what ifs’ now? It would certainly be a good thing.”

Our guy Adam Caplan wrote that he believes the Eagles will be interested in Burress, [...]

  • Week 15 storylines December 13, 2014
Here are the top stories I’ll be following in Week 15 with some insight on some of them. Pittsburgh (8-5) at Atlanta (5-8) Will Julio Jones play? It’s obviously a huge key for Matt Ryan’s ability to hang with the Steelers in a high-scoring game. Without Jones, they have no explosiveness in the passing game and Ryan will have to dink-and-dunk to Roddy White a […]

  • Week 14 storylines December 6, 2014
Here are all the storylines that I will be following in Week 14 along with some commentary and information on the matchups. Pittsburgh (7-5) at Cincinnati (8-3-1) Can Ben Roethlisberger play better against a solid secondary that has limited him to only 16.0 points a game against them in his last four games? Is Heath Miller someone we can actually trust in th […]

  • 30 slam-dunk fantasy starters for the playoffs December 2, 2014
Here is a list of 30 no-brainer starters for the fantasy playoffs. I would imagine that 95% of fantasy players (or more) should start these players the next 2-3 weeks (if healthy) no matter what. I did leave several high-end options off the list (like the Bear WRs) due to some recent issues and lack of production. Note: These are listed by position, and in n […]
