Handcuffed: Is Ben Tate’s ADP straitjacketing Arian Foster owners?

It is getting to be the time of year when I am not only building my general draft strategy, but I am also starting to break down what I plan to do into specifics. I have my studs, sleepers, targets, and values highlighted. I have my duds and overvalues blacklisted. But most notably, and perhaps obviously, my analysis of these specifics starts with a single question:

“If I have the #1 pick in fantasy football this season, what am I going to do with it?”

Here’s the easy answer: I’m going to draft Arian Foster. I will take Foster and his 23.3 FPG in a PPR (1st among RBs), plus his 1841 yards from scrimmage and 12 TDs in 13 games. I will beam when he sucks up touch after touch down the stretch of a close game when both the Texans and my fantasy team need those yards and points.

But is the answer really that simple? Unfortunately, it’s not. It’s a discussion I started on my Twitter account (@FG_Dolan) about a week ago, and my interest in the topic was rekindled on our subscriber message boards this morning.

To put it frankly, it’s wise to be a little bit concerned about Foster’s [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 7/18/11

Could this be the final week of labor talks? Things are looking good, and with free agency possibly just days away, the Monday edition of the Guru Daily features plenty of actual football talk… and some other stuff thanks to a Bengal RB.

Benson arrested … Free agent RB Cedric Benson was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge and released from jail Sunday in Austin, Texas. Full details, from the Cincinnati Enquirer:

According to an arrest affidavit, the former roommate was standing at a street corner in downtown Austin talking on his cell phone around 4:45 a.m. Sunday morning when a “hostile and aggressive” Benson approached him and said they had to talk about their problems.

The two began talking about their living arrangements when “all of a sudden he was struck on his face with a closed fist thrown by Benson,” according to the affidavit. Benson then struck him several more times, it said, resulting in injuries to the left side of the victim’s face.

It’s the second arrest of a Bengal player in the last week, as troubled CB Pacman Jones was arrested after an incident at a club. It’s also Benson’s second problem in the last two years in Austin [...]

Fantasy Guru Daily: 2/23/11

There still is not much to report on the labor front aside from the fact that the NFL and the players continue their mediated sessions. While the vow of silence continues, no news seems to be good news, as it was not a certainty that they would make it the full seven days without one side walking out. But here we were on Day Six, and talks continue. On we go to the rest of the news of the day:

You might want to draft Jimmy Graham … If the stock of young Saint TE Jimmy Graham wasn’t already on the rise after a

Saint TE Jimmy Graham should see an even bigger role in 2011 after the team cut veteran Jeremy Shockey.

strong finish to the season, it’s certainly on the rise now. The Saints cut veteran TE Jeremy Shockey, who battled injuries in 2010 and ended up 4th on the team with 41 catches for 409 yards and 3 TDs. Shockey, who will be 31 years old by the time the season starts, has never played all 16 games in a season and has missed 10 regular season games in three years with the Saints. Shockey would have made $4.7 [...]

Here are the top stories that I will be following in Week 16 for fantasy. Philadelphia (9-5) at Washington (3-11) Robert Griffin III did play better last week, but does it mean anything? It’s hard to trust him even against a beatable secondary and a defense that lost a top pass rusher in Trent Cole. If you’re playing in Week 17, can you trust DeSean Jackson, […]

Here are the top stories I’ll be following in Week 15 with some insight on some of them. Pittsburgh (8-5) at Atlanta (5-8) Will Julio Jones play? It’s obviously a huge key for Matt Ryan’s ability to hang with the Steelers in a high-scoring game. Without Jones, they have no explosiveness in the passing game and Ryan will have to dink-and-dunk to Roddy White a […]

Here are all the storylines that I will be following in Week 14 along with some commentary and information on the matchups. Pittsburgh (7-5) at Cincinnati (8-3-1) Can Ben Roethlisberger play better against a solid secondary that has limited him to only 16.0 points a game against them in his last four games? Is Heath Miller someone we can actually trust in th […]
