Position Battle Playing Time for First Full Week of Preseason Action

We continue to update the position battles around the league, but in this blog, I thought looking at preseason playing time would be interesting. The depth chart doesn’t always tell the whole story and it’s certainly worth noting when players get in the game and who they get to play with, whether it’s with the first-team offense or the backups. If you’re looking for game reviews with stats, check out those our here. Let’s take a look at how the battles went in the first week of preseason action.

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys 

The Battle: Lance Dunbar vs. Joseph Randle vs. Ryan Williams for team’s backup RB job (#2)

Dunbar: Did not play.

Randle: Started (DeMarco Murray Did not play) and played into the 2nd quarter

Williams: Second RB in after Randle in 2nd quarter. Played into 3rd quarter with backups.

The Battle: Brandon Weeden vs. Caleb Hanie for team’s backup QB job (#2)

Weeden: Started (Tony Romo Did not play) and played entire 1st half.

Hanie: Came in after Weeden and played entire 3rd quarter with backups.

New York Giants

The Battle: Rueben Randle vs. Odell Beckham Jr. for team’s starting WR job (#2) 

Randle: Started along with Victor Cruz and Jerrel Jernigan. Played 1st half with starters and backups.
