2008 Sample Article: The Manager Report - May 5-11
Posted: 5/2/08
By Jim Coventry
Staff Writer, FantasyGuru.com

Before reading the charts, here is the condensed version of the report:

Almost half of the MLB teams play seven games this week. The NL teams with a full slate are:
Phillies, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, and Rockies. In the AL: Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays, White Sox, Tigers, Royals, Mariners, and Rangers.

The best overall hitting environments will exist for these teams (
bold indicates a seven-game slate): Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals.

Your batting average hitters from these teams have a great schedule:
Phillies, Orioles, Royals, Pirates, and Giants.

Your
White Sox power hitters have a nice seven-game schedule.

Your Athletics run scorers will have six favorable games.

Consider reserving your marginal
Mariners, Padres, Mets, and Dodgers.

Weekly ballpark factor for hitters:

Notes: The lower the number (1 being best, 30 is worst) the better for hitters. Since an average is used, the numbers will not be an exact 1-30. The best rating in any category is a 1.

Any time the Nationals and their opponents have games in Washington, the ranking for those games will be 15-15-15, since there have been few games played in their new park. This rating is just to have a numerical set for all games and will not likely be a forecast of the stadium.

Week 5 hitter chart:

Weekly ballpark factor for hitters:
This is my own invention in that I will provide you with- a three-column chart to help you see that ballparks are sometimes tricky to figure out. For example, if the Giants had a week at their home park, you would see that the ballpark is below average at giving up runs, dead last in allowing HRs, but it gives up the 7th most hits in the majors, so a player like Randy Winn is a solid play, but a power hitter would not be such a good play, unless your slugger is a HR machine.

Bold indicates team playing 7 games this week.

Double start breakdown: May 5- May 11

Notes:
The projections of which pitchers have double starts are always subject to change due to injury, manager decision, or weather.
The order of this list is based on ballpark, opposing offense, and opposing SP.
The order also reflects the best chance (top of the list) of posting strong numbers in all categories.

Pitchers are listed in groupings based on fantasy relevance:
